STOVE-PIPE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION' forming part of Letters Patent No.306,332, dated October 7, 1884. Application filed April 10, 1884. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, t may concern:
Beit known that I, M. V. GARVER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bryan, in the county of V'Villiams and State of Ohio, have -invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Pipe Holders; and I do declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which forni a part of this specification.
Figure l of the drawings is a side view of a stove-pipe, showing my device applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a front view of the band. Fig. 3 is a top view of the same, and Fig. 4 is a detail view.
This invention has relation to stove-pipe fastenings; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of a metallic band or orbands having reversed or outwardly-turned end lugs, and a metallic strap having one of its ends provided with a catch and the other formed with a tapering slot adapted to engage the reversed lugs of the band and draw them toward each other, tightening the band on the the pipe-section, all as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates a portion of a chimney, having an opening, B, for the insertion of an end of stovepipe O.
D represents a metallic band, having two approximating ends, G G, each of which is formed with a reversed or outwardly-turned lug, E, as shown. Each lug is connected to the main portion ofthe band by a short shank, F,
H indicates a strap of metal, in one portion of which is made a longitudinal tapering slot, K, the wide end of which lies toward a catch with which the other end of the strap is provided. In some instances this catch may be a similar tapering slot, as when it is required to employ two bands to forni a double fastening, inconnecting two sections of pipe, but in order to connect the strap to the chimney-opening, a simple angular catch, bent as at I, will be sufficient. This catch being engaged with the margin ofthe chimney opening on the inside, and the band around the pipe-section having its lugs engaging the tapering slot of the strap, the fastening is secure. Any pulling of the pipe or pressurethereon causes the pipe to close more tightly upon it under the operation of the tapering slot of the connecting-strap.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The stove-pipe fastening consisting of ame tallic band having outwardly-turned end lugs, and ametallic strap having one end provided with a catch, and the other with a tapering slot adapted to engage the end lugs of the band and draw them toward each other, tight` cning the band on the pipe-section, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I afx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARTIN V. GARVER.
