SHOE-CLEANING DEVICE.
Speccation of Letters Patent.
Patented June 17,1913.
Application filed April 16, 1912. Serial No. 691,236.
To all whom it may concern Be itI known that I, JOSEPH J. SLnnrnR, a citizen 0f the United States, residing at Moores, in the county of Delaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Cleaning Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in shoe cleaning devices, the object of the invention being to provide a device of this character' which may be readily held in position, so that the bottoni and sides of the shoe may be easily cleaned.
A further object is to provide an improved device of this character of extremely simple construction, cheap to manufacture and strong and durable in use.
Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l, is a plan view illustrating my improvements. Fig. 2, is a view in section on the line 22 of Fig. l, and Fig. 3, is a perspective view of the plate 2.
l, represents a flat metal base plate to the center of which a metal brush holding plate 2 is secured by rivets 3. The plate 2 as seen most clearly -in Fig. 3, is bent upwardly forming a scraper l which is positioned at right angles to the base, and the corners of the base, at its opposite end, are bent upward forming triangular upwardly projecting extensions 5, 5, the extreme upper ends of which are bent over at right angles forming triangular lugs 6, G.
The brushes are so arranged that their bristles project outwardly and by reason of the particular manner of bending plate 2, these brushes are positioned at an acute angle relative to each other, and the plate l is of suflicient length to extend beyond the brushes, so that a person may place one foot upon this plate l to hold the device against i'noveinent, while n'ianipulating the other foot against the scraper and the brushes.
To permanently secure the device, I have provided screw-receiving openings 10 in plates l and 2, but the device is adapted to be operated without any permanent securing means.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described, comprising a flat base plate, a brush holding plate secured to the base plate, said brush holding plate bent upwardly at one end forming a scraper, and brushes secured to said last-mentioned plate and positioned at an angle to each other, substantially as described.
Q. A device of the character described, comprising a base plate, a brush holding plate secured to the center of the base plate and having one end bent upwardly forming a scraper, said plate at the other end at both corners bent upwardly forming extensions, brushes secured to said extensions, and the upper ends of said extensions bent at an angle forming lugs positioned over the brushes, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOSEPH J. SLEEPER.
