Description
WILLIAM A. MILLER, 0F RICE LAKE, WISCONSIN.
BRUSH ATTACHMENT.
Application led June 3, 1915.
To all 'whom it 'may concern.'
` Be it known that I, lVILnrAM A. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rice Lake, in the county of Barron and State of ldlisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brush Attachments; and I do hereby declare the fcllowing` to loe a full, clear, and exact description of the inyention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to maire and use the same, reference being` had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which forni a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in brushes and it relates more particularly to that class of brushes designed for use in attaching wall paper. advertising bills, etc., and it has for its object the provision oi" a simple and etticient form of scraper so attached to the head of the brush as to adapt it for use in removing the paper and for clearing the surface to which paper is to be attached.
rllhe invention has for a further object the provision of an attachment of this character so constructed as to provide cutting or scraping edges, adapted for use in the upward or downward movement of the brush.
To these ends and to such others as the invention .may pertain, the saine consists in the novel form of a concaved, double edged cutting plate adapted to beattached to the side oiLl the brush head, as will be more fully hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically deiined in the appended claim.
lil/Iy invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which. with the numerals of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a paste brush provided with my scraper attachment. Fig. 2 is a vertical section ot the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view in perspective of the concaved cutting plate.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by numeral, l represents the brush which is of ordinary construction,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 30, iliil. serial No. 31,945.
consistingof the head 2 and bristles 3, confiprising the brush proper, the brush being attached to the head in any approved manner.
fl is a metallic plate of a length substantially the length of the brush head. rlliis plate is concaved as shown with the opposite edges curved slightly outwardly, each of the edges being provided with a cutting or scraping enge, as shown. The plate is bolt- .ed or otherwise securely attached to the one face the brush head, shown in the drawings, either by screws, bolts or other suitable attaching means.
From the foregoing description.v the afl- Vantages derived from the use oi' the attachment will be readily understood.
The upper and lower cutting edges of the plate, being inclined outward, renders it possible for a person, when applying paper to walls or bill boards, to readily remove the paper adhering to the surface to be repapered by simply incliningl the head of the brush so as to bring the cutting or scraping plate into contact with the surface to be papered and, by either moving the brush upward. or downward vas the circumstance may require, the surface can be readily cleared of paper adhering to the surface.
lt will be noted that in moving the brush head upward, the upper cutting edge of the plate will. by the upper movement ot the brush, be removed from the surface, whereas the downward movement will bring the lower cutting edge oi the plate in use.
lVhat l claim to be new is In combination with a brush having a head with a band about the same, a channeled plate :fastened to said band and head and extending substantially the length thereof, said plate having its opposite edges curved` the longitildinal edges ot which are in a planeV parallel with the face ot' the head and spaced apart therefrom.
ln testimony whereof l hereunto ailix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM A.. MILLER.
Witnesses P. PETERSON.
