Description

analista.
'10 all whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, Sims M. BnooKs, of the city fof Memphis, in the county of Shelby and State of Tennessee, have inventeda new and useful Improve- `nient in Spring Bed-Bottoms; and I do declare vhereby that the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip `tion thereof, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawing, and to, thereon, inwliichligure l-is `a longitudinal sectional view of' one ot' `the ,slats or bars, `on which `the bed rests, and which 'slatisi-fixed permanently to `the springs which are securelythstened to the bars A A, with screws, and bars 1), and laterally braced by bar A', and longitudinally by bars B B.
` ing the bars, braces, and slats.'
To enable others `skilled in the art to make and use `1ny invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A A, in tig.1,iarethe lateral bars, on which the `springsc c are secured by means of screws. On `each of the `bars Aare` placed twoh rows ot' springs, five in each row. i,
The bars 1) D are passed through the springs, and are securely screwed onto 4the bars A A, thus assist- 'ing to hold `the springs C C more firmly iny their places.` i i y The bars E E are 'firmly fixed, by. screws, on the top sides of thesprings C C, each slat or bar having an independent` motion, distincty from `each of the other slats or bars, and'in proportion yasthe weight is applied to thesiat, varying from the center, an undulatingrnotion is thus given to theperson occupying the bed, from the vheadto` the foot, each pair of the letters of reference marked Fignre2 is an end view of the row oi' springs, showi Witnesses:
SILAS M. BROOKS o E MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE, ASSISNOE To HIMSEEE AND d CHARLES e. THOMPSON, or SAME PLACE'.A a
Letters Patent No. 106,028, dated August 2., 1.870.
The Schedule referred to in` these Letters Patent and making` part of the same springs giving the same undulating motion; no cross motion is given, as the springs do Vnot yield in a lateral direction. i
If the weight is equally distributed on the slats,
then the motion will be in a vertical direction, as the In Iig. 2, like letters, as in fig. 1, designate likeV parts ot' my invention.
It will thus be seen that by my invention, I am enabled toform a neat, light, and cheap spring bedbottoni, using a small amount-ot' metal in making my springs, and but afew pieces of wood in its construe-i tion, and not easily disarranged or put ont of order.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desir'e to secure by Letters Patent, is The combination of the springs C C, when arranged` only in two rows, with bars A A and D I), and` with slats or bars E E, when said bars E are attached to a pair of springs, one at the top and the other at the bottom ot' the frame, constructed substantially'as de-x scrbed, and operating as and for the purposes set forth.
' SILAS M. BROOKS.
