HARNESS FOR FISHING-CREELS.
1,oeo,257.
Application filed September 19, 1912.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM D. HUM- rI-IREY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pendleton, in the county of Umatilla and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Harness for Fishing-creels, of which the following is a specification.
The device herein disclosed is a body-engaging harness, adapted to support a fishing creel, and the invention aims to provide a harness which will at once serve to reinforce the creel and to support the same from the body of the wearer.
A further object of the invention is to provide a harness of the type above specified which may be adjusted readily to fit about the creel.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings, Figure 1 shows the invention in perspective; and, Fig. 2 is a fragmental section showing a portion of the harness assembled with a portion of the creel.
The invention herein disclosed is fashioned from a plurality of flexible elements hereinafter referred to as straps, the term strap being taken as descriptive of a flexible element of any desired construction.
The device herein disclosed, generally considered, comprises an encircling band 1 and supports 2 which extend transversely of the band 1, the supports 2 being terminally secured to the band 1. A plurality of ties 3 are connected at their ends with the supports 2, intermediate the ends of the supports. A body engaging the yoke 4 is provided, the same being connected at its ends with the band 1.
In a more detailed description, the band 1 comprises rings 5 to which are secured front straps 6, the free ends of the straps 6 being united by a buckle 7. The band 1 further includes the reversely curved links 8 to which primary straps 9 are secured. Secondary side straps 10 are secured in the rings 5, the ends of the straps 10 being connected by means of buckles 11. A pair of back Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 721,291.
straps 12 are provided, the remote ends of the straps 12 being connected with the links 8, adj acentends of the back straps 12 being links 8.
In applying the harness hereinbefore described, to a creel, indicated by the reference character 22, the straps 9 and 10 extend along the ends of the creel, upon the outside of the creel, the straps 6 extending along the front of the creel, upon the outside thereof. The reversely curved links 8 extend through openings 23 in the rear wall of the creel 22, the straps 12 lying along the inner face of the rear wall of the creel; and at this point it may be noted that the reversely curved links 8 connecting the straps 9 and 12 which lie, respectively, upon the outside of the creel, and upon the inside thereof, serve to hold these straps in smooth and taut relation about the creel. The buckle 14 which connects the straps 12 serves to position the links 8 in such a manner that they will be alined with and pass through the openings 23 in the back of the creel 22. The buckle 7 connecting the straps 6 serves to permit an adjustment which will retain the straps 16 upon the front of the creel. The buckles 17 which connect the straps 16 and 15 serve to provide for a lengthening and a shortening of the supports, indicated generally by the numeral 2, so that creels of different heights may be accommodated. The buckles 11 which connect the straps 9 and 10 permit the band 1 to be adjusted about the top of the creel, it being common and well known that the top of the creel is ordinarily smaller in extent than the bottom of the creel. The buckles 17 may be employed also, for drawing downwardly the forward or front portion of the band 1, so that the forward or front portion of the band 1 will lie below the mouth of the creel, the top of the creel commonly slanting downwardly and forwardly.
It will be seen from the foregoing that the harness hereinbefore described may be readily assembled With a creel, for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing the same,
the construction being such that the harness may be transferred from one creel to another.
Having thus described the invention What is claimed is The combination With a creel having a rear Wall provided With spaced openings, of a band comprising outer parts extended around the outside of the creel and an inner part located Within the creel, between the openings; links extended through the openings and connecting the inner and outer parts o-fthe band, supports each connected at one end with a link and extended beneath the creel, the other end of each support being terminally connected with the band.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
WILLIAM D. HUMPHREY.
