Description

I s. s. MOYER.
, HERNIA TRUSS APPLICATION FILED SEPT-28 I917.
Patented Apr. 2
INVENTOR 5AMUEL.5.MOYER UN TI i SAMUEL menses.
will efi'eetually prevent the pressure and soreness in the fork or crotch of the body-s My invention consists of a padded belt, a strap having a stiff wooden or puncturable portion and a stiff round extension to such portion continuing in a round soft portlon and a flat padded portion, and a pad formed of a block with spicular projections, the construction of the pad and the number of straps and pads used being such as will be hereinafter more particularly explained.
Figure 1, is a perspective view of a double truss.
Fig.2, is a view of a single truss showing a slightly difierent type, the belt being broken away.
Fig. 3, is a vertical section through one of the straps and pad.
Fig. 4, is a perspective detall of a pad.
Fig. 5, is a detail of the inner portion of the pad.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
1 is a belt, which is preferably padded and is provided with any suitable form of connecting buckle 2 at one -end. 3 is a strap comprising the padded strap like portlon 3, and the rounded portion 3 which is formed of suitable rubber tubing 3 or any other suitable soft material.
The portion 3 extends forwardly under the crotch and has a reinforcing strip of material 3 which is securely fastened to the stiff portion 4: made of the wooden strlp or other suitable material, which is readlly puncturable. The stiff portion 4 is covered with a cloth or padded covering.
At the top of this portion 4: is secured a loop of soft material 5, such material be ng a textile or other fabric. The stiff portlon 3 is suitably secured to the front of the Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed September as, 1917. Serial No. 193,780. I
7 :1 til 7:..- ln' a wooden strip l and extends down in curved formas indicated: in the drawing into the rounded portion: 3
6*is my hernia pad, which preferably comprisestwo portions 6 and 6. 1 The portion 6 has fastened in it the spicular projections or tacks; 7 the'heads of which abut the portio1r6 1 m: .1 ii
ltfwill be noticed that the inner face of the'portion16 -is flat and the abutting face of the portion 6 is flat to fit closely upon the flat surface of the-portion 6 and therebyl hold the tackson spiculanprojections in place.
The innerface of the portion 6 is some- :whatconvex in form and the hernia pad 6 is provlded with a cover-111g 8 of any material. preferably of soft rubber.
The lower portion of the pad has placed between it and the covering 8 a soft filling 9.
The spicular projections extend through into the wooden portion a and thereby hold the pad in any position to which it is placed.
It will be readily seen that the pad may be changed in its position by simply pulling it away from the stiff portion 4 and thereby withdrawing the spicular projections. It then may be readily replaced and changed in position as the spicular projections or tacks will serve to hold it in any position in which it is put by simply projecting into the stifi portion.
The pressure of the under strap reinforced as above described serves to hold the pad in the proper position.
The opposite end of the under strap is fastened by a pin 10, which extends through the belt and strap as indicated. Of course, a safety pin may be employed but whatever class of pin is employed it wants to lie flat as possible.
In Fig. 2 I show just a single truss and in this case the stiff portion 4 has a button 11, which extends from it through a hole in the belt. Several means-of fastening may be employed without departing from the spirit of my invention.
The advantages of my invention are that the strap with its stiff extension serves to hold a pad against the rupture in lever like sure beyond that point as is incident to a spring or elastic truss.
The ready change of the pad is also an important desideratum as well as its extreme simplicity and its adaptability for either right or left hand side.
The shape or size of the pad may be changed at pleasure.
It will be noted. that the lower portion of the pad is provided with a soft filling, which serves to relieve the pressure where required.
In my form of invention also the belts do not need to be so tight and give more comfort in every way than the trusses now commonly in use.
It will also be seen that the pad may not only be diiferentin form but it also may be set at various angles as may be required.
Although I have described with great pan ticularity the construction of my truss it will of course be understood that various changes may be made in parts thereof without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim as my invention is.
1.. In a truss, the combination with a belt, of a stiff pad supporting member extending downwardly therefrom at the front portion of the belt and having an inwardly curved rigid lower end adapted to xtend into the crotch of the leg of the wearer, and flexible connecting means extending from such rigid end to the back portion of the belt.
2. In a truss, the combination with a pad supporting member, of a pad, and adjustable means for securing the pad'to such rigid member so that it may be removed bodily to any desired position upon the supporting member.
