HORSE-BLANKET ATTACHMENT.
amazes.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PERCY JAMEs Bon- BRIDGE, a subject of the King of GreatBritain, and resident of @ttawa, in the Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horse-Blanket Attachments, of which the following is the specification.
This invention relates to horse blanket attachments and the objects of the invention are to facilitate in wrapping the blanket around the horses belly, to render it impossible for the blanket when fixed in position to slip or become displaced, to simplify the construction of the belly and leg straps and generally to adapt the attachments to better perform the functions required of them, and it consists essentially of the improved construction particularly described and set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings forming part of the same.
In the drawings, Figure l is a view of a blanket, embodying the present invention, as seen when thrown over a horse. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the horse showing the blanket in position and the location of the leg straps and means for securing the same to the inner face of the, blanket. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the horse blanket provided with the improved attachments. Fig. 4: is a View of a spring snap hook and sliding adjusting member attached thereto. Fig. 5 is a view of a spring snap hook and a metallic D attached thereto.
Like characters of reference refer to like parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a horse blanket of any usual description fitted with the improved attachments. This blanket is provided with rings or metallic Us 10 attached by web, rope, leather or like material sewn or otherwise securely fastened to the under face of the blanket adj acent to the opposite lateral edges and near the rear edge thereof.
To effectively wrap the blanket A around the belly of the horse, I provide straps 11 of web, rope, leather or like material secured at one end to the top of the blanket near the front edge thereof, the free ends of such straps being provided with buckles 12 designed to engage the straps intermediate of their length so forming loops 13 carrying snap hooks 14 designed to engage Specification of Letters Patent.

the metallic Ds or rings 10 in a manner to be made clear hereafter.
The straps 11 engage intermediate of their ends with sliding, adjusting or supporting members 15 which in the embodiment lllustrated are formed by three vertical bars suitably connected by transversely extending members provided with an orifice 16 through the top adapted to engage the snap hook 17 secured to the top side of the blanket near the lateral edges and intermediate of the length thereof.
When a blanket fitted with the improved attachments is thrown over a horse, it may be secured to the neck in any suitable manner, the blanket being then wrapped under the belly of the horse and held in place by the straps 11 which when crossed under the belly of the horse are secured in position by engaging the orifice 16 of the sliding, supporting or adjusting member 15 with the snap hook 17 whereupon the free ends of the strap are passed around the inside of the horses hind legs and the snap hooks 141 engage with the metallic D 10.
Ready adjustment of the length of the straps 11 can be effected through the medium of the buckles 12 and guiding member 15. It will be readily understood that a blanket provided with this attachment is not liable tobe displaced longitudinally or laterally while it will also effectively wrap the blanket in position around the belly of the horse.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. The combination with a horse blanket, of straps so arranged that they may be crossed under the belly of a horse and passed around the inside of the hind legs, and adjusting means for supporting the straps intermediate of their lengths.
2. The combination with a horse blanket, of straps each sewn at one end to the blanket and so arranged that they may be crossed under the belly of the horse and around the inner side of the hind legs, means for securing the free ends of the straps to the blanket, means for adjusting the lengths of the straps, and means for supporting the straps intermediate of their lengths.
3. The combination with a horse blanket, of longitudinally extending straps each rigidly secured at one end near the front end of the blanket and so arranged that they may be crossed under the belly of the horse, the free ends of the straps being designed to pass around the inner side of the hind legs, means for securing the free ends of the straps to the rear under side of the blanket, and adjustable supporting means for engaging each strap intermediate of its length and located on the opposite side of the blanket from the rigidly secured end of its respective strap.
4. The combination With a horse blanket, of tWo similar adjustable combined belly and leg straps so arranged that they may cross each other under the belly of the horse in front of its hind legs and each embrace the hind legs and designed to Wrap the blanket around the horses belly and retain it in the desired position.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two Witnesses.
