To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CATHERINE Gonars, a

citizen ofthe United'States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Im rovement in Petticoats, of which the followmg .is' a specification.

My invention relatesto improvements inpett-icoats and the objects of the invention are to overcome the annoyances incident to the transparency of dress skirts and to devise precautionary arrangements for sanitary purposes, and it consists essentially of the novel construction of the garment more specifically set forth in detail hereinafter, as shown in the drawings, in which Figure 1 is aperspective view of the petticoat thrown open to show the interior construction and"the sanitary apron partly un done, Fig. 2 is a like view with the front fold thrown back; Fig. 3 is a like view of the front of the petticoat in closed condition; and Fig. 4 is a like view of the back of the petticoat in closed condition.

r The petticoat comprises a double ply back 1 extendingfrom the seam 2 to the-bottom thereof forming a permanent panel at the rear of the garment, the ,ortion 3 above said panel being a sm'gle t ickness of material.

The petticoat may be made 1n varlous lengths and of any suitable material or combination of materials and may be trlmmed in anydesired manner.

It will be seen that the garment is of a single thickness over the hips and doubled both" front and back, the front fold extending to the lower end, the double ply at the back being full at the lower end 1n order, with said front fold, to avoid transparent effects. The advantages of'the other parts of the invention are obvious and need not be further commented upon. 7

I.claim:-

A petticoat open atthe front and folded over at thewaist line and therebelow forming a. double thickness from the walst l1ne downwardly t0 the bottom of'the pettlcoat having fasteners at said waist hue and a fastener near the bottom Of'lStLld double thickness and a double ply panel extendlng from a seam located a short distance below the waist line to the bottom at the back, a detachable sanitary apron secured by fasteners to said seam, tape ends tying said apron to said petticoatat the upper corners and tape endsextending from said apron toward the lower end thereof for the purpose of securing said apron to said pettlcoat.
