' Specification of Letters Patent I Application filed March 11, 1911.- Serial No, 613,674.
, Patented Apr.e',""191a.i-
- 4 awwhom, it ma concern:
Be. it known that I, GEORGE W. WILLIAMS, a citizenof the United States, and a resi; dent of the cityof New York, boroughof 6 Brooklyn in the county'of Kings and State ofNew York, have invented a new and Improved Tie-Holder, of which. the following is a full,c1ear, and exact description. l My invention'relates to a new and im- 10. provedforni of "tie holder. I
An object of my invention is to provide a tie holder which is adapted to be firmly held in osition upon the; inside of a collar, to hol a tieviin-place. v 1 A further object of-my invention is to afford a free riding surface for a slidi tie,
' in the wide portion between the stan ing and the turn-down elements of a collar. A. further object of my invention is to provide a tie holder or bearing surface for ties, which. willpermit the tie to be readily drawn about. in. the wide portionbetween the elements of the collar, but will at the same time keep said tie away from the lower outer edge. 1
A further object of my invention is to pre- -vent the tie slipping-from between the body portion and turn-down portion of the collar while placing the same in position about the neck ofthe wearer.
W'iththese and other wil1 mor'.e fully hereinaf r appear, the prese'nt invention consists in certain novel. details of construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim. I Reference is to be had to the accoinpany- 40 ing drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures-and in which-: 7 I Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of a collar ;'and tie, showing a preferred embodiment of my device in section: Fig. '2 is a view similar to Fig-,1! but showing the tie holder in perspeotive; and Fig. 3 is aperspective view show'ng a preferred arrangement of my tie hold the "drawings I have shown a preferred embogiliment of my invention, 1n connection witha collar A, comprising a stand ing portion B and a turn-down portion G,
together with a tie rela-tively long outer side 8 forthe tie-slid ects in view, as
e Having thus described my invent-iom lllflfi' .My tie holder is of ageneral w construe tion, preferably flat, and. preferably con structed of an integral strip of resilient metal, having a standing portionil adapted to fit on the inside of the standingport-ion B, 00 said holder having its .upper end 2bent. slightly outward for a purpose hereinafter described. The standing portion 1 is bent" back upon itself to form a plate'B, between which plate and the portion 1 is inserted the l l standing portion of the collar. The-plate '3, is reversed on itself a slight distance above the end 2, to form the inner side 4 of thetie carrying portion. At a point where 'j plate" 3 and the inner side "4 are reversedthese members are bent slightly outward, 915":- shown at 5, coacting with the bent outv tion 2 to clamp the standing portion of t hg' collar B, as shown at 6, therebyholdingthe tie holder firmly on to the smooth'surface" of thecollar by crimping the same. The inner side t is reversed on itself a slight dies tan'ce above the reversal point- 7, to fon nfa'.
element. It will be seen that by this con struction the tie is raised a short distance"- above the lower edge 9 of the turn-down" portion of the collar, but, at the same time thetie is retained in the largest part of'th' inverted V-shaped'sp'aoe between the stand ing and the. turn-down portions of the collan Many changes could be madein the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of this invention-*1 could be made without departing from the- 0 scope thereof. It is intended that, all mat-' .ters contained herein, in the. abovc'descrip tion or shown in the accompanying draw. ings shall be interpreted as-illustrativeand not in a liinitingsense. It'is also to be tin-1 derstood that the language used in the f0l'-' if. lowing claim is merely intended to cover'all j the generic and! specific features of the invention herein described and'all statements of the scope of the invention, which, as a 9, matter of language, might be said .to fall therebetween and that materials, sizes and relativities of parts are "non-essential, except as called for in the claim.
claim as new and desire to secure by Patent:' 1', "11. -As a new article-of manufacture, faqtief holder formed of a strip bent into 'substan- .t1al W-shape, forming an inner loop to re- 1 1i! cei ve a portion 0f'a collar and an outer loop terminating short of t-he'bottom of the inner loop and adapted to receive a tie, the outer member of the strip extending above the upperend of the intermediate portion and the inner member terminating below the upper end of said intermediate portion, the
upper ends of the inner member and the intermediate portion being bent inwardly, said
