Nr-:oKrlE-SEGURING. DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 757,730, dated April 19, 1904.
I Application filed July 1l, 1903. Serial No. 165,170. (No model.)
To al?. whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, Fomznsfr FERGUSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Necktie-Securing Devices, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as-will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to v make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a necktie secured in position by'meanso my improved fastening means. Fig. 2 is an inverted view, partly broken away and separated, illustrating the several parts of the `device; and Fig. 3 is a similar view with the parts in locked position, the socket member being shown in section.
rLlhis invention relates, broadly, to improvements in means for securing a necktie in position on the wearer, the object of the invention being to produce a device adapted for that purpose which will be simple, economically manufactured, and which will serve as asecure fastening means for uniting a necktie toa collar-button.
Referring to the drawings, l is a base member, of metal Or other suitable material, with which is connected an elongated flat shank 2, uponwhich shank is secured the cap 3, said cap 3 being adapted to t into and interlock with the socket member 4i, which socket member is secured to the necktie-card 5,as shown, by means of the outwardly and backwardly bent claws 6, bearing upon the washer 7, which washer 7 and card 5 are held between said claws and the swelled body portion 8 of the socket 4. The shank 2 is provided with the end portion 2, which may be of any convenient contour, and between said end portion and the neck portion 2b there are transverse slots A formed in the edges thereof, whichslots project laterally into the metal of the shank. Over the end of the shank is slipped the cap 3, which cap is formed from thin metal in any convenient manner, so as to provide a wide open mouth and a rounded end or apex. After the lar-button described; but the style of socket illustrated, which is provided with the annular projecting spring' edge portion Li, is probably best adapted for the purpose, said spring edge portion interlocking with the said bead 3a to hold the necktie in position upon the collar-button described.
I am aware that minor changes in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the several parts of my device can be made and substituted for those'herein shown and described without in the least departing trom the nature and principleof my invention.
Having thus described my invention,`what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A means for securing neckties in position comprising a socket member adapted to be connected with a tie, in combination with a button member which is provided with a base portion, an elongatedl dat shank having transverse slotted portions in its respective edges adjacent its upper end, and a separately-formed cap member which is connected with the shank member at its slotted portions, which .cap is adapted to interlock with said socket member.
2. A means for securing neckties in position, comprising a socket member connected with a tie, in combination with a button member, said button member comprising a base, an elongated at shank having slotted portions in its respective edges, and a cap portion having an annular bead engaging the slotted portions of the shank, the said cap being adapted to intervlock with said socket member, substantially-as described.
3. A collar-button for the purpose designature, in the presence of two witnesses, scribed, comprising a base, and an elongated this 7 th day of July, 1903.

In testimonyT whereof I hereunto aiX my GEORGE BAKEWELL.
