ALEXANDER THOJBTSON, OF LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA.
LATJIP-CHIDINEY ATTACHMENT.
incassa.
Application filed May 25, 1912.
To all whom it' may concern Be it known that I, ALEXANDER THOMSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lake Charles, in the parish of Calcasieu and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp- Chimney Attachments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in lamp chimney attachments, and has for its obj ect to provide a cover for lamp-chimneys to protect the light from the wind and sudden gusts of air, and is to be used for heating purposes for small vessels7 etc.
Another object of the invention is to provide .a lamp -chimney attachment of the above character which will possess advantages in points of eficiency and durability, is inexpensive of manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.
Vith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings in which,
Figure l is an elevation of a lamp-chimney showing my improved attachment applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2 2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, l indicates the cover made of two cir cular pieces of metal and comprises the upper and lower plates 2 and 3 respectively. The upper plate 2, is arranged in spaced relation with the lower plate by means of the circularly arranged supports 4- formed integral. with the upper plate and having their lower ends engaged over and adapted to rest upon the outer edge of the lower plate 3. The lower plate 3 is provided with a plurality of downwardly extending arms 5 adapted to be arranged around the top of the lamp chimney G to prevent lateral movement of the cover thereon. Formed in the lower plate 3 are a plurality of perfor-ations 7 to allow the heat from the lamp to pass through to the upper plate so that small vessels can be heated if desired and it will be seen from the above construction that wind or sudden Specification of 'Letters Patent.

gusts of air will be prevented from entering the chimney.
The cover l is held securely in place upon the top of the chimney by means of the wires 8 having one of their ends secured at diametrically opposite points to the outer edge of the lower plate 3. The lower ends of the wires are secured in the eyes 9 formed upon opposite sides of the lamp-burner 10. The wires at their intermediate portions are coiled as shown at 11 so as to provide a resilient connection between the cover l and the lamp-burner 10 and securely hold the cover in place on top of the chimney 6.
From the above description taken in connection with the drawings it will be readily apparent that I have provided a simple, durable, and inexpensive lamp chimney attachment which can be readily applied to the chimney and used for heating purposes for small vessels, etc.
l/Vhile I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacriiicing any of the novel features or depart-ing from the scope thereof.
l/Vhat I claim is l. In a device of the character described, the combination with a lamp-burner and chimney therefor, of a cover comprising upper and lower plates arranged in spaced relation, supports formed on the outer edge of the upper plate and having their lower ends engaged over and resting upon the outer edge of the lower plate, a plurality of downwardly extending arms formed on the lower plate and arranged aro-und the top of the lamp chimney, said lower' plate being provided with a plurality of perforations, and resilient connections between said cover and the burner.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination with a lamp-burner and chimney therefor, of a cover comprising upper and lower plates arranged in spaced relation, a plurality of downwardly extending arms formed on the outer edge of the lower plate and arranged around the top of the chimney, said lower plate being provided with a plurality of perforations, and resilient wires having their upper ends secured at diametrically opposite points to the outer edge of the lower plate and having their lower ends secured to the burner upon opposite sides thereof.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination with a lamp-burner and chimney therefor, of a cover comprising upper and lower plates arranged in spaced parallel relation, supports formed on the outer edge of the upper plate and having their lower ends engaged over and resting upon the outer edge of the lower plate, a plurality of downwardly extending arms formed on the lower plate and arranged around the top of the lamp chimney, said lower plate being provided with a plurality7 of perforations,
wires having their upper ends secured at diainetrieally opposite points to the outer edge of 'theW lower plate, the lower ends of said wires being secured to the burner upon opposite sides thereof, and coils formed atthe intermediate portions of said wires to form a resilient connection between the cover and burner.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aiiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALEXANDER THOMSON.
