I'm/um UNITED STATES AARON BURDWISE, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
PICK FOR STRINGED INSTRUMENTS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 23, 1918.
Application filed November 14, 1917. Serial No. 201,926.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AARON Bunnwisn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Picks for Stringed Instruments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in picks for stringed instruments and has for its object to provide a pick with a simple and convenient device to afford comfortable grip and to prevent the pick from slipping between the fingers of the performer.
The invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in detail in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure 1 is a side view of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the opposite side.
Fig. 3 is an edge view.
Fig. 4 is a modification showing the loop on one side only.
Fig. 5 is a view of the opposite side of Fig. l.
Fig. 6 is a further modification showing the gripping device made of sheet metal with depressions stamped in both sides thereof.
Fig. 7 is a vertical section of Fig. 6.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views thereof, 1 designates the pick, which is provided with gripping device at the upper end thereof, comprising a loop 2 at each side formed by passing the wire through the apertures 3 and bending the extremities -l and 5 around the opposite edges of said pick 1. The loops 2 in the present instance are circular, but may be formed in any desired shape. The free ends of the loops 2 project slightly from the pick and form a convenient grip for the performer and prevent the pick from slipping between the fingers.
In Figs. -land 5 I have shown a modification in which only one loop 6 is employed, and the extremities 7 are run through the apertures 8 and bent over opposite sides of the pick 9.
In igs. 6 and '7 i have shown a further iodification in which I employ a metal piece 10 bent over the top of the pick 11 and depressed at 12 to hold it thereon. The 5 ends of said piece 10 are each provided with depressions for the fingers of the performer.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A pick for 6O stringed instrument having a piece of wire secured thereto and having a loop in which the finger rests, its extremibeing bent around the edges of the pick. A pick for stringed instruments having a Jiece of wire secured thereto and having a loop on the opposite surfaces of said pick in which the fingers rest, the extremities being bent around the side edges of said pick.
A pick :tor stringed instruments having an aperture therethrough, and a wire loop secured to the pick by having its extremities projecting through said aperture.
l. A pick for stringed instruments having an apertur therethrough, and a loop on each side of said pick in which the fingers rest, said loops being formed of wire passing through said aperture.
5. A pick for stringed instruments having an aperture therethrough, and a loop on each side of said pick in which the fingers rest, said loops being formed of wire passing through said aperture, the extremities being secured to said pick.
In testimony wh reof I aliix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
