JSP; sLUssER..
. STOPPER EXTRAGTOR. APPLICATION nu!) AUG` 5, i910.
l www' 4useful Improvements in JAMES F. SLUSSER, OF JACKSGN, IDAHO.
STOPPER-EXTRAGTOR.
T0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES FRANK Simssnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson P. O., in the county of Cassia and State of Idaho, have invented new and Stopper-Extractors, o' which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stopper extractorsl and the object oli the invention isfto provide a simple, cheap and conveniently operated stopper' which may be operated Without the aid of instruments of any character and Which Will get a firm grip upon the stopper so as to insi'ire its being properly extracted Without breaking or destroying the saine.
Further objects ot the invention Will appear as the following specific description is read in connectionwith the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this applig cation, and in which: l
Figure 1 is a sectional view through a bottleneck showing the application of the invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view o thedevice. Fig. 3 is a plan view ot' the blank before being bent into shape.
Referring more particularly to the drawings 1 represents a bottle neck and 2 the stopper which is mounted therein. The extractor comprises a single band of metal 3 which is formed Iinto a loop 4t adapted to receive the finger. The opposite ends of the band beyond the loop are provided with laterally extending projections 5 and each extremity is formed into a longitudinally extending prong 6. The prongs 5 and 6 are bent at right angles to the hand so as to enter the cork and immediately above the prongs Vthe band is bentinwardly so as to lie over the top ofthe cork.
Heretofore devices of this character have been made `with a single longitudinal prong.

which has been bent laterally to enter the cork or with three or four prongs at the end of the band, but this device frequently destroyed the cork or tore the same. With the present device, I also employ the longitudinal prongs Which are bent laterally to enter the cork extending prongs each are bent at right angles to the band and have the pull of the band exerted thereon in a direction at right angles to their bend so that there is no tendency for them to bend back in their original position as there is with the longitudinal prongs. Furthermore, these prongs extend substantially throughout the length of the legs and cover a considerable portion of the length of the cork so that a tirm grip is secured thereon.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is- The combination With a stopper,. of an extractor therefor comprising a flat strip 'of metal, a loop formed intermediate the l/ength of the same, angularly extending shoulder portions forming a continuation o said loop and resting upon the stopper, substantially parallel legs extending angularly from said shoulder portions, a series of laterally projecting prongs stamped up from either edge of Said legs adjacent the ends thereof, the prongs of one side being parallel with the others of the opposite side, and prongs bent up from the ends of said legs at right angles, thereto-and at angles to the lateral prongs.
In testimonyvvhereoic I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
