To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK B. HINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at El Paso, in the county of El Paso and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in String-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

An object of the invention is to provide a string fastener of a simple construction which can be cheaply manufactured for securely fastening a string after the same has been arranged around a package or the like.

The invention contemplates, among other features, the provision of a fastener which is adapted to have one end of the string aterence denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which:

Referring more particularly to the views, I disclose a package 10 adapted to be secured by a suitable string 11 having its ends held securely by a fastener 12. The fastener consists, more particularly, of a single piece of wire-like material bent at its medial portion to form a loo-p 12a, with the sides of the loop diverging to points 12b, after which the ends of the piece of material are bent to form converging sides 12c and again bent to form diverging sides 12d terminating in ends 12e projecting beyond the diverging sides .forming the-100i) 12a, It win be noaa that the sides 12d lie in the plane of the converging sides 12c and engage the same and that the ends 12e project in opposite directions.

The spring 11 is first suitably looped or otherwise secured around the loop 12a of the fastener at the bend at one end thereof after which the string is passed around the package to secure the'same. The free end of the string is now passed between the sides 12d and 12", at one side of the loop 12a and is pulled upwardly until it reaches the bends at the end of the loop distant from the end to which the string is fastened. The string is now twisted and passed between the other sides 12c and 12d of the loop 12a and pulled upwardly to the bends at the above mentioned end of the loop 12a. It will now be seen that a portion of the string passes around the said bends of the sides 12c and 12d and is thus secured and prevented from slipping. Therefore, with the fastener described it will be apparent that the free end of the string will be securely held in position to secure the package, and although the same will not normally slip, the string can be readily disengaged from the fastener by simply reversing the steps mentioned above and which involve the application of the free end of the string to the fastener.

It will be seen by referring to the views that the fastener is substantially diamondshaped and is so formed by the diverging` sides rst mentioned and the converging sides 12, with the ends 12e lying along the converging sides 12c and engaging the same and having their extremities projecting beyond the points of formation of the converging sides relatively to the diverging sides of the fastener in such a manner as to co-act with the divergent sides to guide a string into a position to be passed between the contacting sides 12c and 12d. As stated heretofore, the fastener is preferably made of a single piece of wire-like material and for this reason can be cheaply constructed and easily manufactured in large quantities.
