Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ERNEST OLDENBUSCH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of-Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Desk-Pad, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The present invent-ion relates to desk pads, and more particularly to a corner plate for desk pads so constructed that in addition to performing its usual function of confining a corner of a sheet of blotting paper, it may also be used as a receptacle to contain small cards and other articles.

To the above ends, the present invention consists of the corner plate for desk pads, and the devices and combination of devices which will be hereinafter described and claimed.

Figure 1 shows a portion of a desk pad with my improved corner plate attached thereto; Fig. 2 shows a sectional view taken on the line 22 in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 shows a modified form to be described; and Fig. 4 is a section on line 4- 1 of Fig. 3.

In that form of my invention shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the corner plate 1 is preferably rectangular although the corners 2 and 3 may be roun ed.as shown. Along two sides and about the corner 3 the plate 1 is bent downwardly forming a vertical wall 4 and thence outwardly forming a horizontal flange 5, and again bent downward forming a marginal vertical flange 6. The horizon tal flange 5 rests upon the upper surface of the pad 7 with the marginal vertical flange 6 engaging the edge of the pad 7, and it is fixedly secured to the pad by means of the fastenings 8. The plate 1 is cut out as shown at 9 and provided with the downwardly extending flanges 10 along each edge of the opening 9, the flanges being of a depth to fit into an opening 11 formed in the pad 7. By this construction an opening is formed in the corner plate and pad in which may be placed small articles such as the substantially square cards 12. Preferably the opening in the plate 1 will be bounded by a frame plate 13 secured thereto in any suitable manner and forming a confining flange 14 beneath which is held a transparent protecting plate 15 and the cards 12; the openin in the frame plate being of less area than the plate 15, and the cards 12. Preferably the cards will be contained in a case 16 having a back plate 17 and side walls or flanges 18, and of a size to fit the opening 9 in the corner plate and within the flanges 10 thereof. The case 16 is removable through the opening 11 at the underside of the pad 7 in order to change or rearrange the cards 12 when desired. In this form of my invention the cards will bear the usual form of monthly calendar. It will be noted that although the receptacle projects below the under surface of the corner plate, yet there is a better confining portion extending for quite a substantial distance beyond the wall of the receptacle as at 19 and 20. The blotter 21 will of course be cut out to fit about the flanges 10 of the plate 1.

In that form of the invention shown in Fig. 3, the plate 1 is substantially the same as described except that it is out off on the line 22, and in this case the receptacle 23 has a closed bottom 24L preferably curved as shown at 25, and the walls 26 of the receptacle projects some distance above the upper surface of the plate 1 and is provided with a hinged cover 27 This receptacle is particularly adapted to contain postage stamps.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

l. A corner plate for desk pads, a receptacle therein, a retaining frame plate overlapping the opening to said receptacle, and a transparent plate beneath the frame plate the corner plate having blotter confining portions bounding said receptacle.

2. A corner plate for desk pads having an opening, depending flanges surrounding the opening, a frame plate overlapping the opening at the front, and a case removably fitting inside the depending flanges at the back.

3. A desk pad, a corner plate connected thereto, a receptacle and registering openings in the pad and the corner plate to receive the receptacle.

4.. The combination with a desk pad having an opening therein, of a corner plate for the pad, a receptacle in the plate and extending into the opening of the pad, and a closure for the receptacle.

5. The combination with a desk pad having an opening therein, of a corner plate for the pad, a receptacle in the plate and extending into the opening of the pad, a frame secured upon the plate and extending over the walls of the receptacle, and a transparent plate beneath the frame.

6. The combination with a desk pad having an opening therein, of a corner plate for the pad having a walled opening, the walls of which engage the walls of the pad opening, a case open at the top and fitting in the opening of the plate, a frame secured upon the plate and projecting partially over the opening thereof, and a transparent plate upon the case below the said frame.
