LAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent,
Patented Bec. 3, liil.
Application filed April 8, 1911. vSerial No. 619,684,
To al?. whom it may concern:
Be 1t known that I, TNILLLAnu a citizen of the United States, residing at Flemington, in the county of Hunterdon n f shown in the lamp of the drawings as passand State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamps, of which the following isa specification.
My present invention relates to an irnproved lamp, especially adapted to be made out of such materials as pottery, and I have shown one of the specific lforms which the lamp may take in the annexed drawing which is a vertical section, partly inelevation, of a lamp within my invention.
Except for the electrical parts, the lamp is made up of substantially two parts, a pottery base l and a pottery combined cover and shade 2. The base, generally speaking, is a vase which, however, may take any vase-like form quite dierent. from that l. shown.
Thecombined cover and shade 2 may take any desired form of lamp shade l to provide a cover portion 2 to removably cover the mouth of the vase-like base and has on its under side means, in this case an annular flange 3 which fits around or, in general, coperates with the mouth of the vase-like base. Thus the cover 2 cannotbe accidentally 'displaced from its supported position on the base. Finally, the cover 2 is extended outwardly beyond the flange 3 to make the shade-portion 2S.
4Llis an electric light fixture seated in the mouth of the vase-like base and may comprise any usual construction such as a p orcelain base fitted with incandescent lamp sockets 5. There may, of course, be one or more. of these sockets, the lamp shown embodying two. Further, these sockets are shown, although this is not essential, projecting outwardly through openings formed JIfor the purpose in the wall of the mouth of the vase-like base. '6 are incandescent lamps supported in thesesockets to project out- Wardly under the shade portion 2S. The shade portion 2S, as shown, may be provided with jewels 2a fitted in openings therefor.
7 is an electrical switch shown in this particular case supported from the under side ,of the electric light fixture 4 with which it is properly electrically wired for controlling the lighting of the lamps 6. The particular switch shown happens to be of the pullchain type, said chain passing through an H. FULPER,
opening in the -wall of the vase-like base so as to be conveniently at hand for operatingl the switch. The electric light cord 8 is ing through a central hole formed in the cover 2C to form proper electrical connection with the fixture 4. Of course, this cord 8 might pass downwardly through the base of the lamp, and further the switch 'T need not be of the pull-chain type, nor need it be located in ,the position shown.
Further, other departures in the exact form and" arrangement of the devices of the drawings may be made which it is the intention to. cover ifsaid modifications are still within the spirit of my invention.
Vhat I claim is:
1. A lamp comprising a vase-like base, a
removable c over/ for the mouth of the vaselike base having on its under side a flange coperating with said mouth, said cover extending outwardly beyond said flange to make a shade for the lamp, and an electric light fixture comprising incandescent lamp socket means, said fixture being seated in the mouth of the vase-like base which has an opening or openings through its wall in alinement with-the incandescent lamp socket means for the incandescent lamps to project outwardly Aunder the shade portion of the cover.
2. A lamp comprising avase-like base, a removable cover for the mouth of the vaselike base having means on its under side cooperating with said mouth to prevent lateral displacement ofisaid cover which further extends outwardly beyond said means to make a shade for the lamp, and
an electric light fixture located between the mouth of' the vase-like base and the under side of the cover, said fixture comprising incandescent lamp socketmeans arranged so i
