ELECTRIC-LAMP ADJUSTER.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Jane t7, t @t 3.
Application tiled April 17, 1912. Serial No. 691,295,
The object of this invention is to provide l for adjusta simple and convenient means ing the position of an incamlescent lamp i suspended by the usual drop cord conductor. The `invention is illustrated in the draw ings 1n which- Figure 1 shows the adjuster attached to a lamp and in use to hold the lamp in hori zontal position. Fig. Q is a view similar to Fig. 1 but with Fig. 3 is a detail view ot' the adjuster.
Bv reference to Fig. 3 it will be seen that i lamp socket and its supporting cord` the adjuster colnjn'ises a body o havingr 'at one side spring arfns h-b 'and at another Iside a cord engaging part which. as shown,
is in the forni of a hook c. Preferably the adjuster is shaped uplirom a piece ot insulating material which has a natural spring or resiliency in order that the arms o-b wiltgive slightlywvhen they are forced onto the socket.v As illustrated it is the intention that the adjuster shall he normally earried by the socket as shown in Fig. 2 and when it is desired to adjust the light to a horizontal position the drop c.ord is caught under the hook c as shown in Fig. l. The adjuster can be freely turned about the socket and thus engage the cord without twisting or kinking it. it is evidentJ that if it is desired the adjuster can be normally attached to the cord by causing;r the hook c' to clamp the cord or by providing, in place SACHS, a citithe adjuster out of use l i l l l l l l l l l l i Ithe lamp vfrom vertical to of the hook c, an apertured projection through which the cord is passed. Then when it is desired to change the position of horizontal the adjuster can be snapped on to the socket.
The device is extremely simple and inexpensive to make. It is thoroughly practical and has a decided advantage in that its position on the socket can bereadily changed. i
In a very large number of cases the lamp is provided with a reiiector and it will be secu thatl my adjuster is wholly independent ot' the refiector o1 its position, thus making it possible to turn the reflector about thc lamp to throw the light in any desired direction Without interfering.r with the action of tlnrzuljuster in any way.
I claim aS my invention:
1. The combination with au incandescent otau adjuster therefor comprising a fiat body of insulating' material havin;y an aperture therein adapted to fit closely the socket. an opening into said aperture less'iu width than the diameter ot' the aperture Afoi-urine; springarnis 1o permit of passing the socket thcrclwtween. and a cord engaging projection from the body arranged in the plane of the body. y
2. The herein described article of manufacture comprising,r a flat. body of insulating.: material` wml-engaging means and yielding;r socket engaging means formed integ- `fi-ally with the bod)Y plane thereof.
