Be it known that I, Miin'roN P. S'rnvmvs, a citizen" of the United States, residing at East Orange, in the county of Essex. and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lighting- Fixtures, or which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to lighting fixtures and its novelty consists in the construction and adaptation of the parts as will be more specifically pointed out hereinafter.
The object of the invention is to provide a lighting fixture in which the socket carry ing an electric bulb or other receptacle for a source of illumination is secured at the end of a rigid support which in turn depends or projects from a ceiling or wall, and an ornamental canopy is employed to surround the support and socket and conceal the details of the construction and connections and to constitute a housing therefor, this canopy being adjustahly carried by the supportin such a manner that it may be removed from the device without disturbing the socket or its connections.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for holding a shade, reflector or the like in proper relation to the source of illumination and the canopy, by means of a connection between the shade holder and the canopy itself, this construction resulting in an economical, pleasing, ornamental and unitary fixture.
Figure 1 is a sectional view of the fixture embodying the principles of my invention a so and Fig. 2 is a similar view showing a slightly modified form.
In the drawings, referring to Fig. 1 especially, a wall or ceiling is represented by 10. To this is secured a support indicated at 11 and which carries a hickey or other similar device 12, provided with an externally threaded terminal 13. A socket of usual form is indicated. at 14:. It is secured directly to the end 13 bymeans of a hub 15 which is threaded on to such end, the socket being united to the hub by means of screws indicated at 16.
Inclosing the support and socket is a canopy indicated at 20 and which when it is in position is adapted to contact with the wall or ceiling 10.
Carried on the hub 15 is a shell 21 which is preferably threaded. A canopy holder 22 comprising a shell having an upper threaded portion 23 adapted to engage the threads on the shell 21, and having a terminal annular flange 2% upon which the lower edge of the canopy rests, is adapted adjustably to support: the canopy and hold it against the wall or ceiling 10.
The canopy 20 is provided at its lower terminal edge with a circular beading 1 over which a correspondingly recessed portion: 2 oftlie shade holder 25 is spun so that the said shade holder is supported directly from the peripheral edge of the canopy by the interengagement of the bead 1 on the canopy and the recess 2 on the shade holder 25'. A globe or shade is illustrated at 30 the same being supported from the holder in any suitable manner. The canopy is also provided with a spacing flange 201 which rests upon the lower part 2% of the canopy support 29'.
What I claim is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a support, a hub thereon adapted to carry a socket, a shell secured to said hub, a canopy holder adj ustably secured to the shell, a canopy supported by the holder, a shade holder and means for carry ing it from the canopy, including a cooperating bead and recess on the canopy and shade holder respectively.
2. A device of the character described comprising a support, a hub thereon adapted to carry a socket, a shell secured to said hub, a canopy holder adjustably secured to the shell, a canopy supported by the holder, a shade holder and means for carrying it from the canopy, including an inter-locking bead and recess on the canopy and shade holder respectively.
3. A lighting fixture including a support, a shell carried thereby, a canopy holder adjustably secured to the shell and provided with terminal means for supporting a canopy, consisting of an outwardly extending flange, a canopy provided with a cooperating inwardly extending flange and which canopy is also provided with a heading, and a shade holder provided with a member adapted to engage the beading of the canopy.
4. A device of the character described comprising a support, a hub thereon adapted to carry a socket, a flanged threaded shell secured to said hub, a canopy holder adjustably secured to the shell, a canopy supported by the holder and provided with a circular beading, a shade holder and means thereon to engage the circular beading on the canopy to support the said sha'de holder.
5. In a lighting fixture including a support, a shell carried thereby, a canopy holder secured to the shell and provided With means for supporting a canopy, a shade holder and means thereon to peripherally engage the canopy to directly support the said shade holder.
6. In a lighting fixture including a support, a shell carried thereby, a canopy holder secured to the shell, a canopy, a shade holder secured to the lower outer edge of the canopy, and means for supporting the canopy from the canopy holder.
7. 8. In a lighting fixture including a support, a shell carried thereby, a canopy holder secured to the shell, a canopy supported by said holder, and a shade holder arranged to partly overlap and engage the lower edge of the canopy thereby supporting the said shade holder.
