Description

A. GIORDANO.
BEDGLOTHES CLAMP,
APPLICATION FILED APR.15, 1912.

Suva/44 607,
Aflihofly Giordano ANTHONY GIORDANO, OF SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS.
BEDCLOTHES-CLAMP.
Application filed April 15, 1912. Serial No.i690,801.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTHONY GIORDANO, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Antonio, in the county of Bexar and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedclothes- Clamps; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in bed clothes clamps.
One object of the invention is to provide a device of this character adapted to be placed over the bedding at the foot or head of the bed for the purpose of securely fastening or holding down the bed coverings without danger of tearing or damaging the same.
Another object is to provide a bed clothes clamp which will be simple, strong, durable and inexpensive in construction, efficient and reliable in operation and which may be readily adjusted to fasten more or less coverings onto mattresses of various thicknesses.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings; Figure l is a perspective view of a bed showing the clamp applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the clamp removed from the bed; Fig. 3 is an inverted perspective view of the bed clothes engaging member of the clamp; Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the attaching member of the clamp.
My improved bed clothes clamp comprises a rigid clothes engaging bar 1 which may be formed of wood, metal or any suitable material and which is of a length corresponding substantially with the width of the bed to which the same is to be applied. The bar 1 is of suitable width and thickness and has on its under side a series of parallel transversely disposed teeth or ribs 2 which preferably taper toward their lower edges as shown. WVhen the bar is engaged with the bedding the teeth or ribs 2 press down onto the same and thus securely hold the clothes against slipping from beneath the bar. The construction arrangement of the ribs'or teeth 2 is such that they will se- Specification of Letters Patent.

curely hold the bed clothes without danger of tearing the same.
Secured to the ends of the bar 1 by metal clips or other suitable fastenings 3 are attaching straps 4 which are adapted to-be engaged with or looped through attaching devices 5 secured to the side rails or other part of the bedstead. The free ends of the straps 4 after being engaged with the attaching devices 5 are brought up, and secured to the ends of the bars I. The free ends of the straps et are adjustably secured to the ends of the bar to lengthen or shorten the straps by means of a plurality of eyelets G which are adapted to be engaged with fastening devices 7 arranged on the clips 3 at the ends of the bar 1 as shown. The fastening devices 7 are here shown and are preferably in the form of studs or buttons having pivotally connected outer members which when the eyelets 6 are engaged therewith are turned crosswise thereby preventing the casual disengagement of the eyelets from the studs.
The attaching devices 5 for receiving and attaching the straps 4 to the side rails of the bed comprise brackets consisting of a base plate having on its ends parallel right angularly disposed ears 9 in which are secured the ends of a strap receiving rod or bar 10 around which the straps t are looped before the free ends thereof are fastened to the studs or buttons 7. By thus constructing and arranging the attaching straps it will be seen that they may be readily adjusted to permit the device to be employed for fastening down more or less bed clothes, or in connection with mattresses of different thicknesses.
By means of my improved bed clothes clamp the covering of a bed may be secured and held smooth so that the bed will present a neat tidy appearance and when the bed is in use the clamp will securely hold the covers from slipping or being pulled off or dislocated by the occupant of the bed and in this respect is particularly applicable for use on childrens beds.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood Without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is;
A bed clothes clamp comprising a clothes engaging bar, a series of clothes engaging teeth arranged transversely across one side of the bar, attaching straps secured at one end to the ends of the bar and having in their opposite ends a series of eyelets, strap fastening buttons arranged on the ends of the bar, said buttons having pivotally connected outer sections adapted to be secured crosswise of the eyelets in the ends of the straps when engaged with the buttons ANTHONY GIORDANO.
