JOHN F. KILLION, 0F ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR T0 S. M. EINSTEIN, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS.
LOCKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 26, 1912.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN F. KILLION, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, county of Bristol, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lockets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to jewelry and more particularly to articles of this class of the locket type.
The object of my invention is to provide a novel device in which the locket portion shall be concealed or partly concealed and the manner of exposing the same rendered inobvious. This, together with various other structural points, will be more fully described in the specification which follows.
Throughout specification and drawings like reference numerals are employed to indicate corresponding parts, and in the drawings: Figure 1 is a front view of a pendant embodying my invention, Fig. 2 is a similar view with the locket exposed, Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3, Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the locket portion.
The pendant locket as shown comprises a locket portion 1 having a recess within which a picture or other memento which is indicated at 3 may be placed, covered by a back 2. At the lower end of the locket is formed a bearing 1 in which is pivoted a pendant setting 10 has a tendency to hold the movablemember 5 in vertical or closed position.
On the upper edge of the support 5 and preferably adjacent to the setting of the jewel 6, I provide a rearwardly extending, slightly tapered catch 7 On the upper side of the locket 1 is a recess 8 within which the catch 7 may be seated, the parts yielding slightly to allow lodgment and engaging to prevent dislodgment.
On the upper side of the locket 1 is mounted an ornamental extension 9 preferably of a design corresponding with the movable member 5 so that the line of opening is concealed by the apparent continuity of the design. This terminates in a suspending ring 9 by which the pendant may be hung.
Various modifications may obviously be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts and in the manner of decoration, setting and the like, all without departing from the spirit of my invention if with in the limits of the appended claims.
What I, therefore, claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device of the class described comprising a locket member, a movable member pivoted between its ends to the lower edge of said locket member and having its upper portion adapted to overlie said locket member, interengaging catch members on said movable member and said locket member, suspending means mounted on the upper part of said locket member and a pendant on the lower end of the movable member when said movable member is closed and suspended by said locket member.
2. A device of the class described comprising a locket member, a movable member pivoted between its ends at the lower edge of said locket member and having a jewel setting at its upper end adapted to overlie said locket member, an extension piece on the upper end of said locket member and adapted to register with said movable member when the same is in closed position, and suspending means on the upper end of said extension piece.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN F. KILLION.
