To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN WIELIAM SIM- MONDS, of Attleborough, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Brooches; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the acoompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

This invention has reference to an improvement in the class of brooches in which a glass disk or crystal is inserted and a miniature or ornament may be inserted.

The invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction whereby ready access may be had to the interior of the brooch and the brooch secured, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter.

Figure 1 is a front view of my improved brooch. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view.

In the drawings, a indicates the rim, which is shown scalloped and beaded, but may be of any ornamental design; a, the flange against which the crystal b bears; b, a spring-rim g for holding the crystalb in place c, the cover, socured by the hinge c to the upper part of the rim Cb and provided with the snap-latch 0 by which the lower part of the cover is secured. The edge of the cover 0 fits into the annular recess a, in the rim. To the cover is attached the pin d, pivotallysecured in the hinge d and fastened by the hook (2 By this conwhile it is secured and miniatures or other ar ticles inserted or removed without detaching the brooch.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a brooch, the combination with the circular rim a, the flange a, the circular crystal 1), and the spring-ring b, of the cover a the edge of which enters the annular recess in the rim, the annular recess 0. the hinge o securing one edge of the cover, the snap-latch c on the cover arranged to snap over the edge of the rim, and the pin d pivotally secured to the cover and engaged with the hook d on the cover 3 whereby the fastening-pin is supported by the cover and covered by the brooch, as described.
