Description
` iitedwtw @stent @mire DAVID A. sCoTT,` or CINCINNATI, oIIIo, AssIeNon "To -ALLEN'C RICII- Amas, CF SAME PLACE.
` vLetters Patent No. 104,504, dated June 21, 1870. s
IMPROVED SPRING- BED-BOTTOM.
' I, DAVID A. SCOTT, of Cincinnati, in the county of I-Iamilton'and the State of Ohio, have invented a eertain Improvement in Spring A13ed-Bottoms,-of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a bed-bottom constructed with lifter-springs, the slats resting upon the stirrup, and held by lugsprojectiiig beyond thc arms thereof, and settling between them when depressed. Y
Figure 1 is a planof a spring bed-bottom embodying my invention. i
Figure` 2 is a longitudinal section of one of the slats and spring connected therewith.
A is the frameof the bed-bottom, to the cross-rails 'J3l of which are secured the springs O.
"The two arms D of the springs are turned downward at their upper ends, and are united together by thel strrup-bars E, upon which the ends of the slats rest.
In order ythat the. slats may be confined to their places upon the springs, the pins or lugs are driven into the slats, and their ends project beyond the edges of the slats a little `morethan the thickness of the arms D f the springs, and in such location, near the ends of the slats, that the projecting ends of the lugs G may be beneath the point of unionof the arms D and stirrup E of the springs.
The arms D ofthe springs, `being close to the slats f at their termination in thestirrnps E, the slats will be confined in their places upon vthe springs, unless eX- 'I traneous force is used to remove them. This may be necessary when, by long and violent use,'they sag and require turning over, or, when cleansed, it will he found to be more conveniently accomplished when they are detached.
To remove the slat,` press down upon it` until the ends are nearly in contact with the frame A; the stirrups E are caused to approach each other; the slat is then moved toward one of 'the springs, and, since the arms D of the springs diverge from the stirrup E, the ends of the lug at one end of the slat 'will be liberated from beneath the said arms ofthe spring, then the slat is moved in the opposite direction until the lugs at the other end ,are also freed from contact with the arms of the spring.
. Thepslat may be turned over or cleansed, as the case may` be,`and inserted by reversing the operation necessary for its removal.
I claim as my Invention- The reversible slats F, projecting between and beyoud the arms D of the lifter-springs, and secured to the stirrup thereof by the lugs G, arranged and constructed as described and for the purposes set forth.
v DAVID A. SCOTT.
