WALLET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 1 9, 1912.
Application filed .Tune 5, 1912. Serial No. 701,707.
To all whom 'it may'concem:
Be it known that I, FRANK E.HoUsH, a citizen of the United' States, residing at Winthrop, in the county of Suffolk and- State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Vlallets, of
which the following isa specification. `My invention is la wallet designed to receive disk-phonograph records, photographic- ,slides or plates, or other articles which it is desired to store in orderly and portable fashion and to present its receptacles for reception or selection of articles in vertical position. p lln the drawings: Figure l 'is a side elevation of my ,newl wallet, in open position; Fig. 2 is a similar view, in closed position; of Fig. 2, enlarged scale, passing through the clamping rivet; and Fig. l is a perspective view. My new wallet is made--up of a multi plicity of pockets A; of stout paper, cloth or other suitable material, combined with a casing B of leather or the like. Each pocket A is preferably cut of4 a suitable length from a long tube of the material used, and the short tube into one of the open ends of 4 thus formed, which end is designed to be at the bottom of the completed article, is preferably inserted a narrow st-rip, a, of stili' paper of a length equal to the width of the pocket, and similar strips may be distributed between the pockets at the lower end. ln assembling the pack of pockets preparatory to combining them with the casing upon each each side of the bottom of the pack are The bottom edges ofthe pockets A and base strips, a, are leveled on a plane surface and one or more apertures are then bored through the pack and through the strips and a rivet 7', or rivets secured therein, thus binding the bottom of t-he pack into an inflexible, plane-surfaced base.
The casing, in its best form, consists of a back portion, b', and two sides, b?, 3, which are connected at b to back b, being pref erably bent at right angles at b and permanently setp Side b3 is hinged at basso that it can be folded upon itself and back b2 carries at its free end a cover flap Z922 which in turn is connected to a flap 623. In assembling the parts of my wallet the inner surface of Z2 and the plane bottom side of the rivetedl base of the pack of pockets are coated with an adhesive, as fish-glue, and pressed into. contact until firm adhesion takes place. The firm connection of the casing to the riveted plane end of theypack gives to the back or bottom of the wallet a plane surface upon 'which it may stand securely, holding its contents vertically and present-ing the vupper ends of the receptacles to inspection, while additional stability is secured by connect-ing the covers 52,123 by means of a strap, T, preferably of elastic tape, as shown. When the Wallet is open, the tape is carried under the bottom of the wallet and holds the free end of side Zr and flap 523 against the supporting table or surface, propping up the body of the wallet, giving a wide base. W'hen the Walletis closed the strap is passed over the bottom of the wallet to secure the parts in their closed position. Preferably the strap is permanently secured at one end and detachably secured at the other end.
The clamping of the stifened bottom side of the pack, anchored by an adhesive to the back b', forms a solid plane bottom base from which upwardly project the several receptacles suitably numbered, the strip which is within a particular receptacle forming a cushion to receive and sustain in vertical position the article inserted into the receptacle. The riveted base of my receptacle pack forms a strong, stilf and abrasion-proof support for the wallet and its contents capable 'of sustaining any necessary weight and resisting wear practically to a greater extent than any other part of the wallet and owing to -the clamping act-ion of the 'rivets the solidity of the base is such that thereis no bending of the base, when the wallet is lifted and carried.
My improved wallet is especially useful in the storage and safe and convenient transportation of orderly selections of articles, and the proper, orderly and convenient presentation of these articles for use, as in exhibitions and lectures.
l claim 1. The standing Wallet above described made up of a pack of receptacles and la multiplicity of base strips, the whole secured together to form a solid .plane bottomed base, a cover part secured to the plane sur- .face of the base part of the receptacle pack and having sides for surrounding and supfor surrounding and supporting the pack 0f porting the pack of receptacles.' receptacles.
10 2. The standing Wallet above described, Signed by me at Boston, Mass., this 29th made up of a pack of tubular receptacles day o'f May, 1912.
