AUGUSTUS lIOFF, OF BROOKLYN, NElV YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE COM- STOCK-IIOFF MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF NEW YORK.
PHYSICIANS PORTABLE CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 559,709, dated May 5, 1896.
Application filed January 18,1896. Serial No. 575,981. (No model.)
To csZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS IIOFF, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Physicians Portable Medicine or Instrument Cases, of which the following is a specification.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, in which like letters of reference indicate like parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my new and improved medicine or instrument case as it appears when closed. Fig. 2 is a like view of the same as it appears when opened with the partitions in vertical position. Fig. 33 is a like view of the same with all of the partitions tipped forward to horizontal position. Fig. 4 is a detailed sectional elevation showing the construction of the main case and partitions and illustrating in full and dotted lines the operation of the partitions, and Fig. 5 is an enlarged detailed view of the same.
My invention relates to improvements in physicians portable medicine or instrument cases wherein partitions are employed which support the medicine-bottles or instruments; and the invention consists, mainly, in con structing the partitions with supporting shelves or flanges, which are provided with front flexible connections secured to the bottom of the main case.
The invention also consists of the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the drawings, Arepresents the main body of the case, formed with a dropfront A and provided with a hinged cover A both adapted to be opened and closed, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2.
B B B represent movable partitions, each provided with suitable clasps Z) 0 to receive and securely hold small bottles or surgical instruments-here shown constructed to hold bottles 0. The partitions are each formed with a flange or base d, which supports the partition in vertical position, and when in vertical position the said flanges are adapted to rest horizontally upon the bottom of the main casing and one upon the other, as illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5. The flanges d are of varying widths, according to the width of space desired between the partitions, and each flange is formed or provided with a flexible flap d, all of which are secured to the bottom of the main casin g, near its front edge, as shown, by pins or rivets a a or other suit able fastenin gs, so that the partitions maybe tipped forward to horizontal position, as shown in Fig. 3, in which position the said flanges d rest upon their front edges, as shown in dotted lines in Figs. 4 and 5. The flaps d, if desired, may be spaced by interposed strips f, of wood, metal, pasteboard, or other suit-- able material.
D represents a permanent wall interposed between the movable partition B and the back wall of the main casing, and the space between the said permanent wall and the back of the casing is divided into small chambers e by partitions c for receiving bottles, instruments, &c.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a physicians portable medicine or instrument case, the combination with the main body thereof provided with a drop-front, of a movable partition formed with a flange at the bottom and provided with a flexible flap at its front edge secured to thebottom of the case; substantially as described.
2. In a physicians portable medicine or instrument case, the combination with. the main body thereof provided with a dropfront,
of a series of movable partitions provided with flanges at the bottom of, varying width, and flexible flaps at the front edges of said flanges secured to the bottom of the case substantially as described.
3. A movable partition for a physicians medicine-case, formed with a bottom flange having a flexible flap at its edge for connec tion with the case; substantially as described.
AUGUSTUS HOFF.
