MEDICAL CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 512,101, dated January 2, 1894..
Application filed March 14, 1893. Serial N0. 6 (N0 model.)
To cLZl whom, it Ina/y concern.-
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM T. EASTES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mu ncie, in the county of Delaware, in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Medical Cases; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, referencebeinghadtotheaccompanyingdrawin gs, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification, in which Figure lfis a perspective view of my improved medicine case showing the case open for dispensing medicine. Fig. 2. is a cross vertical section of the same showing the case closed. Fig. 3. is a perspective view showing the case closed.
My invention relates to medicine cases generally employed by physicians.
It has for its object to provide a case of this character which shall be simple in construction, durable in use, and preferably inexpensive in production, and well adapted for the purpose for which it is designed.
With this object in View my invention con sists in certain features of construction and combination of parts that will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings A, denotes a case which in the present instance I have shown as being rectangular in form. The front side B, of this case is hinged to the bottom thereof, as shown at G, and the top D, of the case is hinged to the outer edge of the rear side, as shown at E. I
The under side of the hinged top is provided with a pocket F, to contain the prescription blanks, birth and death certificates.
Secured to the hinged front of the case is a stationary shelf G, which has hinged to it the second shelf H, and this shelf H is connected with the ends of the case by pivoted links I.
J denotes a strip extending from end to end of the casing at the front thereof, and K denotes a sliding partition, which fits into grooves in theintermediate portion of the end pieces. This latter partition is provided with a shelf L and a shelf 0 and with retaining bands M. The band is formed of strips of metal or leather bent to form pockets, through which the bottles are inserted and which will prevent them falling down to the bottom of the case. The rear side of this partition is provided with bands to receive bottles of a larger size.
. P denotes a sliding strip extending from end to end of the casing, just in front of the sliding partition K. Its purpose is to retain the contents of the tray when the sliding partition K is removed from the case, all of which can be taken out of the case to clean itout. It will be noticed that by this construction the space formed by the end of the casing, and the narrow strips is well suited for containing instruments for minor surgery. At the front corners of the side pieces are provided clasps to engage and hold the front of the casing after the lid has been opened.
To give access to the bottles it is necessary to raise the lid and raise the clasps at the front corners and let the front side B down parallel with the bottom of the case thereby separating the rows of bottles and placing them in plain view.
To the upper edge of the strip J is hinged the cover N of the tray.
Should it be desired to move a surgical instrument, the cover of the tray may be raised.
The device is compact and has large capacity for storing away various and many medicines, and the construction'is such as to reduce to a minimum the liability of breakage and displacement of the bottles.
To the upper edge of the ends of the case, and to the under side of the lid D are attached pivoted hinge links, R, which hold the lid in position when raised.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. A medicine case, having a hinge front, a top, two shelves secured in said case, a shelf Gsecured to the front, a shelf H hinged to the latter shelf, and pivoted links connecting the shelf H with the ends of the case, substantially as herein described.
2. A medicine case having a hinge top, a hinge front, a shelf carried by the front and a shelf hinged thereto, pivoted links connecting the latter shelf with the ends of the case and hinge links pivoted to the ends of the case and under side of the lid, substantially as herein described.
3. A medicine case having a movable partition, bands projecting therefrom to form compartments for the bottles, two bottle shelves secured to said partition, a narrow strip secured to the lower front portion of said case, and a movable strip within said case to form a receptacle for surgical instruments, a hinge front, a bottle shelf on said front, another bottle shelf hinged to the last named bottle shelf with pivoted links connecting it to the ends of the case, so that when the front is raised the shelves carried thereby will occupy a space above the instrument compartment, and clasps for holding the front in vertical position, substantially as herein described.
4. A medicine case having a hinged front and top, bottle securing devices carried by said front, a shelf G secured to said front below the bottle securing devices, a shelf H
