BUTTON-DISPLAY CABINET.

Application filed May a, 19 4. Serial Nb. 835,937.
To all whom it may concern Beit knownthat I, EDWIN B. HAMMER,
a citizen of'the United States, residing at WVashington, in the county of Washington and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Button- Display Cabinets, of which the following is i a specification.
The object ofmy invention is to provide a cabinet which may be used to hold and display buttons or other like articles which are put up in salable form by being attached to cards.
A further object is to so construct the cabinet that the buttons of various shapes and sizes can be displayed to the customers and a compartment is located adjacent each display point to contain a stock of articles displayed and to be readily accessible to the sales person.
With other objects in View, which will be referred to, my invention consists in the peculiar combination and novel arrangement of parts, such as will be hereinafter more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in top plan with parts broken away more clearly to illustrate the structure of the cabinet. Fig. 2 is a view in front elevation of one end of the cabinet. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view through the cabinet.
The cabinet comprises a body portion 1 and a display section 2connected with the base of the body member on the front thereof. The body portion comprises a rectangular case 3 having a bottom 4 and a cover 5 is hinged to one of the upper edges of this case 3 to close down and form the complete body portion. A partition 6 is secured in the case 3 at a point above the bottom 4 thereof and this bottom 4 is extended beyond the front side of the case to form the bottom of the display portion 2, the end members of the display portion being sloped gradually on their upper edge from the level of the partition to the level of the front wall 8 of the display portion. A false bottom 9 is secured in the display portion 2 of the cabinet and is'sloped to follow the slope of the upper edge of the end members 7 and a draw member 10 is received through an opening 11 formed in the rear walls of the case 3 within the space below the parti- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July so, 1915.
tion 6. A cover 12 is hinged to swing down over and close the open top of the display section 2 and this cover is provided with a glass window 13.
The'drawer 10, the space within. the case 3 above the partition 6, and the tray formed in the display section 2 by the disposition of the false bottom. 9 therein are substantially ofthe same longitudinal and trans verse dimension. A plurality of square tubular or cell members open at both ends are mounted within the case 3 to rest at their lower edges uponi'the partition 6 andat' their sides to abut against each other and at their ends against the sides on the case 3,
similar cells or tubular members 15 of a longitudinal extent equal to the depth of the drawer 10 are mounted therein in a like manner, and still other tubular members 16 are similarly arranged in the tray provided.
in the display section 2. It will be understood that these cells will be connected one i with the other and with the sides of the members in which they are positioned and thus the structure when completed will present a plurality of compartments in the case 3 above the partition 6, in the drawer 10, and in the tray of the display section formed above the false bottom 9, all of which compartments will be of the same longitudinal and transverse dimension.
The covers 5 and 12 are provided with rim portions 17 and 18 to close down and make a substantially dust-proof connection, cases 19 are connected between the bottom t of the body and the bottom of the drawer member 10 to prevent this drawer being withdrawn entirely from the body portion and to thus preclude possibility of the contents of the drawer being spilled, and tape loops 20 and 21 are provided on the drawer 10 the cover 12 at such a position that these tapes may be grasped to move the drawer and the cover to the desiredv position.
When the cabinet is in use a sample card of buttons or of the articles to be displayed and of the type contained in each of the compartments of the drawer 10 can be placed in the' corresponding compartments of the display section 2 to be visible through the transparent window 13, also in a like manner, a sample card of the goods conmeans, and in this Way the customer is permitted to View a sample of each quality, size, or kind of goods contained in the several compartments and the stock of the goods is contained in the cabinet to be kept fresh and clean and to be readily accessible to the sales person, also it is indicated at a glance just \vhigh compartment contains the goods desire While I have herein shown and described one specific form of my invention, it Will be understood that slight changes might be made in the form and arrangement of the several parts comprised therein Without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not Wish to be limited thereto except for such limitations as the claim may impart.
I claim A display cabinet comprising a body portion and a display portion, a partition mounted in the body portion to extend parallel with the bottom thereof, a 'draWer mounted in the body portion beneath the partition, a cover to permit access to said body portion above the partition, a cover to permit access to the display portion and provided With a Window therethrough through Which the goods placed in the display portion can be viewed, and a plurality of cellular members connected Within the drawer, the body portion above the partition and the display portion and the adj acent cells thus placed secured together thus forming storage and display compartments.
In testimony whereof I afl'iX my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
