Application led May I6, 1910. l.Serial No. 561,648. n 1
To all whom it may concern:
Bie it known that I, HENRY FRANCIS KEIL, a citizen oft-he United States of America, anda resident of Bronxville, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Bracket-Clamp, ofwhich the following isa specification', the same being a full, clear,
andexact description of the invention, such aswill enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains tomake and use the same. y x
This invention relates to a support-ing piece or combination vof pieces of moderate projection generally springing froma vertical surface, and particularly to proJecting metal pieces fastened to a wallor.` other surt. face,`as a support for some obJect, andprovided with self-acting clamping devices constructed and arranged to support rods "or 'other'supporting devices.4 t
This 'nvention consists of a peculiar construction andI arrangement of parts herein after described and illustrated n` the drawin' s'which accompany and form apart of this specication`and` in whichf i. brackets provided with my bracket clamp;
4Figure 1 represents a plan view of Fig..,2 is a side elevation. of the same; and Fig. 3 is a rplan view; Fig. 4 an. end elevation;` and Fig. 5 aside view of my bracket clamp. t v t vLike letters of reference indicate like parts in allthe views. Referring particularl "tothe drawings, `A denotes a wallv or ot er. suitable surface to whichLthe'bracke/t is to be at-tached,`sef cured to which wall are bracketsupports,
as A, with which are engaged brackets con.- sisting of an upper member Bwith a preferablyfupturned end F, and a lower inember Gsuitably 4secured to the member B, as \by a rivet E, the other end of the member G being preferably screw threaded, as at K. A nut N workingon the thread K vserves-to hold the member G 'in an adjustable-relation, and the boltH'operates as a; #means 'of attachme t betweenthe member B and the v,bracket suppopt. A.
ik Thev Abracket clamp Cconsists of a VU- shaped resilient body portion a preferably made of spring metal and having laterally or sidewise extendingfoot portions c which ,the ,members B, or, if desired,
are'curved inwardly in order to grasp the retaining-memberB, whereby a self-acting clamplngvdevice is formed. The said body portion is ordinarily made with a circular orconcave recess I), extending transversely across the same. The footportions c of the saidclamping devices are ordinarily slit, as ate, in order to afordta dual clamping de- \f'ice,whereby a better gripis obtai-ned, the members ofthe preferably bifurcated vfoot portions c serving to adapt themselves to any inequalities there may be in the thickness of the. bracket member B thereby af-` fording a differential spring gripv or yclamp action of each -part ofthe twodual members -C. i
fl'n practice, as' many of .theicla'mping' devices as it may be desired to use are snapped kupon the .members B of ap-pair of brackets, and are securely held in the required positions .by the resilience'of the clamps. The cross barsD `may then vbe placed. inthe-recessed portions b of the clamping devices,
inorder that. articles of lany-desired Vcharacterjnmaygbe supported thereby.
,The clamping devices may beslid along ay be detachedtherefrom without the use of any .screws-or other adjusting or releasing dej vices.
Ipwishit to'be understood that I do not desire to be limited to the exact details of construction shown and described, for various ,modifications will occur to a person skilled'in the art'.
What I claim asmy invention is A metal bracket clamp' comprising la bed plate to rest on theupper face. of a bracket and having resilient gripping means and having an inverted U-shaped central part -made with a recess `formed with four spaced bearing edges, and therebelow positioned horizontal lportions extending Aoutwardly from each side thereof toform one engaging means with .the bracket, and two adiacent and alined integral members turned downward to form the horizontalportions at each side of, the clamp to 'form a 'second engaging means with the bracket and consistin'g'of a pair of differential spring gripping or clamp membersone located at each side of thelamp, the freeedges of the said pair of 'downwardly extenldingn parts being sol 2 j f 1,035,967l
turned linwardly in ,order to grasp the lower tion I do hereby sign thevsxhegn the city v faceof the 4bracket to'form a third engagf of N ew York, count and-State of, New v ing means with the bracket-.and to adapt the 'York this 18th day o April, 1,910.
clamp to be snappedk upon the bracket at g HENRY FRANCIS 'KEILg -5 will andI to be retained thereon by the re- Witnesses.: b silienc'e of the metal. J. ODELL FOWLER,
