Description

H. F. GORDON.
SPUTUIVI CUP HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. I, 1918.
L288$ Patented Dec. 24, 1918.
I I 1 l I l i t 1 INVENTOR 1 WITNESSES ATTORNEY bill" HUGH F. GORDON, 0F COLQRADO SPRINGS, CGLQEADQ.
sru'rurr-cur olman.
Application filed February 1, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, HUGH F. GORDON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Colorado Springs, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'Sputum-Cup Holders, of which the following is a specification.
. This invention relates to sputum cup holders and has for its object the production of a simple and e'fiicient cup holder which may be easily attached to the side rail of a bed or supported in any suitable manner in connection with a. suitable support, such as a bed, an invalids chair or other suitable means.
Another object of this invention is the production of a simple and eiiicient bracket which may be applied to a suitable support for the purpose of conveniently supporting the sputum cup so as to support the cup within an easy reach of the patient.
With these and other obiects in view, this invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fullv described and claimed.
in the drawings Figure 1 is a top plan view of one form of the sputum cup holder,
Fig. 2 isa section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 33'of Fig. 1.
By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the structure shown in Figs. 1 and 3 inclusive comprises a supporting arm or bracket, this arm or bracket 1 being provided with an inwardly extending ofiset flange 2 upon the inner ends thereof as shown in Fig. 2 and being adapted to fit over the side rails 3 of a bed indicated in dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2. This bracket or arm 1 is provided with a longitudinally extending slot-4 and a clamping plate 5 is secured to or supported upon the arm or bracket 1 by means of a suitable supporting bolt 6. A wing nut 7 is threaded upon the bolt 6 and is adapted to firmly hold the locking late 5 in a set position upon the bracket 1. t should be understood that this bolt Specification of Letters Eatent.

tion by means of the wing nut as above stated. The arm or bracket 1 is provided with a depending integral rib 8 formed upon one side thereoi', which rib is adapted to constitute an abutment against which the locking plate 5 is adapted to rest for folding the lockmg plate against movement in one direction. It should be understood that in order to support the arm 1 upon the side rail of a bed, the flange 2 may be hooked over the angle iron side rails 3 of the bed and the locking plate 5 adjusted firmly against the side of the rail as indicated clearly in Fig. 2, and firmly held in this position by tightening the nut 7 upon the bolt 6.
The arm or bracket 1 is provided with an enlarged outer end 9 which enlarged outer end 9 is provided with a plurality of side flanges 10 having suitable notches 11 formed in the upper face thereof for the purpose of permitting an operator to place his fingers through the notches 11 for the purpose of gripping the sputum cup which is. adapted to be supported upon the enlarged outer end ,9 of the arm 1. These fianges 10 will constitute an eficient retaining means for pre venting the cup from accidentally slipping from the enlarged end 9, and in this way firmly holdingthe cup to a proper position in order 'to permit the operator to have access thereto.
What is claimed is 1. A sputum supporting member comprising a bracket, a clamping plate slidably mounted upon said bracket, said bracket provided with a longitudinally extending adjusting slot, a clamping screw extending through said slot and carried by. said clamping plate, means for clampin said screw in firm engagement with said p ate, a depending integral web carried by the lower face of said bracket and adapted to engage said locking plate for holding said plate against swingmg movement in one direction.
2. A sputum cup supporting holder coma 1,2ee,eeo
