SELF-GLAMPING SGAFFOLD-BRAGKET.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRED H. DETTMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kaukauna, in the county of Outagamie and State of WVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Self- Clamping Scaffold-Brackets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention has relation to new and useful improvements in self-clamping scaffold brackets, and has for its object the pro duction of a simple and economical device of this character adapted for ready and easy attachment and which may be retained in adjusted position by arranging the stirrup in an angular position on the bracket support.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a bracket constructed in accordance with the invention, positioned on a support. Fig. 2 is a similar view, parts of the invention being shown in section. Fig. 3 is a plan view of Fig. 1; and Fig. & a vertical section cut on,

Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of the invention, 1, indicates a post or other supporting member, and 2 the self-clamping bracket which essentially comprises the stirrup and putlog holder 8, and 4, respectively. The stirrup is built up of two sections, 5 and 6, respectively, section 5 being of approximately U- shaped form and its body constituting a side bar or member 7 The arms 8, of the U- shaped section are provided at their outer ends with threads and the inner arm is also formed or provided with a shoulder or enlargement 9, at the inner end of its thread, said shoulder being adapted to contact with the adjacent face of the post or supporting member, 1. | cess or bifurcation 11, for the reception of the threaded end of the outer arm of the U-shaped section. The putlog holder 1, comprises a central body portion 12, having an upright lug 13, extending from its upper outer edge and a depending clamping portion 1 1, at its inner lower edge, said clamping member having a smooth surface adapted to slide on one edge of the support 1, and two inwardly projecting side flanges 15, adapted to embrace opposite faces of such support. The body portion of the putlog holder is also formed with a central aperture 16, the function of which will be shown.

In practice, the putlog holder is first arranged in pivoted position to the stirrup, by inserting the inner arm of the latter through the aperture 16 of said holder. The free end of section 6, of the stirrup is then swung down to cause the aw thereof to engage the outer end of the threaded arm of the U-shaped section. The bracket is then slipped in position on the support and may be slid up or down thereon until the proper adjustment has been attained, when the bracket may be retained in such adjusted position by causing the side bars or members of the stirrup to assume an inclined position,

relative to a horizontal plane. The inner arm of the U-shaped section is provided with a sharpened upper edge 17, to bite or engage on one of the edges of the support to more securely retain the bracket in an adjusted position. A nut 18, is screwed on the threaded end of arm 8, to hold the putlog holder in removable position thereon. The body portion of the putlog holder is preferably formed with an ap'ertured depending lug or extension 19, adapted to be engaged by a fastening member which may be employed to support the bracket.

From the construction disclosed, it will be seen that the invention may be easily and readilyadjusted, is of comparatively simple structure, and by reason of this structure may be retained in an adjusted position without the employment of any auxiliary devices.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Having thus described the nature of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:

stirrup and a putlog holder the latter comprising a depending clamping portion formed with inwardly extending side flanges designed to embrace opposite faces of the support and the stirrup being formed of an approximately U-shaped and straight stirrup section, respectively, one arm of the former of which is formed at its outer end with a shoulder designed to engage the adjacent face of the support and of a thickness to correspond with the adjacent flange of the putlog holder, and the latter of which straight section and the body of the U-shaped section comprising the side pieces ol the stirrup and being adapted to position on opposite faces of the support.
