UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OSCAR J. THOMAS, OF PENINSULA, OIIIO.
FAIL-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 468,161, dated February 2, 1892.
Application iiled January 30, 1891. Serial No. 379,685. (No model.)
T all whom, t may con/cern.-
Be it known that I, OSCAR .I. THOMAS, of Peninsula, inthe county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fail-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to Whichit pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in a pail-holderdesigned more especially for holding milk-pails While milking; and it consists in certain features of construction and in combination of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
The accompanying drawing is a side elevation, partly in section, showing the pailholders in position on the pail.
A represents a pail-such, for instance, as a tin pail commonly used for milk-pails.
B I3 are two curved arms adapted to be clamped to the edge of the pail on opposite sides thereof, these arms being curved or extended at any angle laterally, so as to rest on instance, the outside of the pail, as shown. To each' member B is secured a movable jaw C by means of a securing-bolt D, the latter having a thumb-nut (Z. By looseningr the thumb-nut the jaws may be separated, so that they may be passed astride the edge of the pail, and by tightening the thumb-nut the devices are clamped firmly to the pail. The grooves CZ are used when the device is supposed to be fastened to a tin pail having a Wire around the top, and if in case of a Wooden pail having no such Wire the grooves d would not be necessary, but would do no harm. The securing-bolts are usually made long enough to accommodate a wooden pail of ordinary thickness, in which case, of course, they would clamp a tin pail with equal facility.
A pail-holder consisting, essentially, of an arm curved or bent laterally to rest on the operators legs While milking, said arm termimating at one end in an integral jaw, a correspondin g movable j aw constructed to embrace the edge of the pail opposite the rigid jaw, and a securing-bolt and thumb-screw for holding the jaws iu place on the pail, substantially as set forth. j
In testimony whereof I sign this specificaltion, in the presence of two witnesses, this 9th day of January, 189].
OSCAR J. THOliiAS.
