Patented April 3, 1906.
Application filed June 2l, 1905. Serial No. 266,337.
.To LZ/f 'uf/w71?, it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS FRAZIER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Hiawatha, in the county of Brown and lState of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Plate-Securers, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to an improvement in plate-securers designed to removably fix a plate to a table or other support in a manner to prevent its accidental displacement.
The main object of the present invention is the provision of a plate-securer which shall be adapted for ready connection with the plate and which will readily accommo date itself to plates of different sizes.
The invention consists in certain details of structure and arrangement of parts which will be described in the following specification, reference being had particularljT to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is an edge view illustrating' my improved securer applied to a plate. Fig. 2 is a plan view ofthe same, the table-clamping means being omitted. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. l., though taken in a direction at right angles to said figure.
Referring to the drawingsavherein like reference-numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views, my securer is mainly formed of wire twisted upon itself to provide a thickened length of Imaterial of the desired strength. By preference this portion of the structure is formed of two lengths of wire intertwisted in any desired manner. The length of material so formed is centrally bent to provide a coil 1, which engages the lixed nut 2 of a table-clamp, comprising in addition to said xed nut a clamping-screw 3, provided. at its upper end with the usual head 1, as is usual in clamps of this character. By preference the vfixed nut2 of the clamp is formed with an annular recess to receive the coil 1 of the fastener-frame, a tie-bar 5 securing said coil about the nut, as illustrated. From the fixed nut the securer-frame is projected vertically, both branches of the frame being extended in parallel relation and preferably in contact, providing branches 6, which. should be of a length sufficient to permit proper operation of the clamp. The frame at the upper end of the branches 6 is projected forward at a right angle, as at `7, still in parallel relation, and united at the forward end of the extension by a keeper 8. Forward of the keeper the heretofore parallel and contacting members of the frame branch and extend in opposite directions to provide holding-arms9, designed to embrace the depending bowl 1() of the plate 11. The arms 9 are somewhat less in length than the circumferential half of the bowl 10, so that when the arms are in place the bowl is embraced for the greater portion of its circumference. One wire of the two forming the twisted securing frame hereinbefore described is projected beyond the terminal of the arm 9, and this projected portion is bent upwardly at an incline and terminally formed with a hook 12, designed to engage the edge of the plate proper, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. A similar hook 13 is provided im mediately adjacent the juncture of the arms 9 with the extension 7 of the frame, the latter hook preferably comprising a single length of wire formed at one end with a hook to engage the edge of the plate and at the oppow site end bent into U shape to lie on opposite sides of the extension 7 and be embraced and held in position by the tie-bar 8, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
In use the hooks 12 and 1,3 are caused to engage the edges of the plate, the branching arms 9 of the frame underlying the plate and being arranged concentric with the bowl. The plate is thus held in fixed relation to the securer and is designed to be secured on the table by engaging the clampingescrew with the edge of the table, the lower surface of the tie-bar 8 being squared at 14 to rest upon the upper surface of the table in the necessary coperation with the clamping-screw.
It will `be noted that in the use of my securer` the clamping-arms 9 are concealed beneath the plate, the hook-terminals being the only visible portion of the securer, and that owing to the flexibility and spring construction of the arms 9 the securer will readily accommodate plates of different sizes. Furthermore, when in use the securer prevents accidental displacement of the plate, though it may be readily-removed from the securer by springing the hooks 12 from engagement with the edge of the plate and withdrawing the plate from beneath the hook 13, as is obvious.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim is- 1. A plate-securer comprising a wire frame secured intermediate its ends to a clampscrew, the arms of the frame extending vertically from the screw in. parallel relation and IIO being connected by a keeper provided with a hook, the terminals of the frame being projected in the form of curved arms, and hooks connected with the terminals of said arms.
2. A plate securer comprising a clampscrew, a wire trame connected to said screw and comprising two lengths oi wire twisted together, the frame being projected from the screw in parallel relation and secured by a keeper, being bent therebeyond to provide divergent clampingarms, one or' the wires forming a frame being extended beyond the julerminals of the arms and bent to provide ooks.
3. A plate-securer comprising a clamping- L screw and secured by a tie-bar, said frame being projected beyond said tie-bar to provide divergent clamping arms, hooks secured to the terminals of said arms, and a 100k secured to the frame adjacent said tie- 4. A plate-securer comprising a clampingscrew, divergent clamping-arms arranged in a plane above said screw, said arms being connected above the screwbya keeper, and aconnection between said keeper and screw, hooks projecting upwardly from the terminals of said arms, and a hook projecting from the keeper.
In testimony whereof I aflX my signature in presence of two witnesses,
THOMAS FRAZIER. Witnesses T. D. SMITH, W. F. CASH.
