ADJUSTABLE SKIRT HANGER.

Application filed August 23,'V 1921.

-an efficient skirt hanger for display and like purposes whereby the dimensions thereof may be suited to those of the skirt with a view to supporting the latter to the best advantage from a display point of view, the adjustability of the hanger being controlled by centrally located means or means arranged adjacent to or in connection with the supporting hook for the hanger, so that the extension or contraction is equalized in opposite directions from the point ofsuspension wit-hout special adjustment or attention on the part of the operator to insure an even hanging of the garment; and with these objects in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

The hanger consists essentially of a normally horizontal, longitudinally extensible frame 10 supported by a centrally located post 11 provided with means for relatively adjusting the members 10a-l0b of the frame and Jforflocking the same in their adjusted positions, and also having a suspending hook or eye 12 by which the hanger may be suspended from a rod, nail or like means of suspension.

The frame members are of complemental forniV and construction, each consisting of a single rod of wire doubled upon itself at an Specicaton of Letters Patent.

The supporting post embodies a revoluble Y stem 18 having spaced toothed portions or pinions 19 and 20 `for respective engagement with rack teeth 21 and 22 on the facing surfaces respectively of the upper and lower arms or elements 15 and 16 of the frame members to theend that the rotation of the stem in one direction or the other will cause the simultaneous extension or contraction kin opposite directions of the two members,

to an equal extent. Threaded upon the upper end of the stem is a thimble 23 having a neck or reduced portion 24 forming a seat for a ring 25 of the suspending hook or eye 12 to the end that the latter is swiveled on the thimble, and also threaded upon said stem is a lock or jam nut 26 serving to secure the thimble against turning movement independently of the stern.

Obviously it is only necessary to slightly raise and then turn the locking device and drop it into its normalv position t0 effect the engagement or' the seats or notches 33 with the upper arms or elements of the frame members to lock the stem against further adjustment.

The construction described provides for `an extension of the frame to adapt it to properly support and display skirts having diii'erentjwaist or belt measurements While maintaining thesupporting post or means of suspension in the center of the length of the apparatus so that the hanger When supported will occupy a horizontal position and thereby display the garment to the best advantage.
