Specification of Letters Patent.
ratenteana 13,1912.
Application filed June 8, 1911. Serial No. 631,538.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it, known that I AMANDA M. BLUNK- ALL, a citizen of the limited States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented a new and useful Comb, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of the invention to provide a comb havin a novel form of hand grip, anda novel form of teeth, the hand grip and the teeth cooperating in operation.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the recise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can be made Within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings,Figure 1 shows the invention in end elevation, parts being broken away; and Fig. 2 is a front elevation.
Referring to Fig. 2, it will be seen that the comb, in general outline, is sigmoidal or S-shaped incross section, the comb comprising two falciform or sickle-shaped parts.
One of these parts, denoted generally b the numeral 1, is fashioned from celluloi. wood, or any other suitable material of construction. This member 1 includes a flange This flange 2 constitutes a hand grip, when 2, back-bent to overlie one side of the comb.
the device is in use. The other falciform member 3 is, like the member 1, a plate, the
' member '3 provided with a series of teeth 4.
The teeth 4 are turned in an op osite direcbe secured to the member 1' stood that a soft grade of lead, or other coloring material, is employed in fashioning the member 3, so that the combing operation need not be prolonged unnecessarily, to secure the deslred darkening of the hair.
By reason of the fact that the member 3 is fashioned entirely from lead or other coloring material, the teeth 4 will continue to color the hair, until the teeth are entirely worn away. Therefore, the coloring function of the comb will remain, as long as the comb is capable of exercising its combing function.
It will be readily understood that tongue and groove connection between the members 3 and 1 is 'such that, although these members are securely held together in operation, they may, nevertheless, be forcibly se arated when desired.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is A hair comb having a flange andv teeth, the flange and the teeth being turned in opposite directions and into a proximate parallelism, to overlie opposite aces of the comb.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
AMANDA M. BLUNKALL.
