COMBINATION POCKET KNIFE AND FORK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25, 1912.
Application filed March '7, 1912. Serial No. 682,157
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES YAKLIGIAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fresno, county of Fresno, and State of California, have invented a new and useful Combination Pocket Knife and Fork, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in combination pocket knife and fork which is conveniently carried in a containing case and which when set up forms two separate and distinct tools. I attain these objects in the manner hereinafter explained, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which--- Figure 1 represents the containing case when closed and ready forthe pocket, with a side broken away to show the blades of the knife and fork therein. Fig. 2 shows the two halves of said containing case; Fig. 3 shows the one half of the containing case used as a handle with the blade of the fork inserted therein; Fig. 4 shows the other half of the containing case used as a handle with the blade of the knife inserted therein; Fig. 5 shows the blade of the fork separately, and Fig. 6 shows the blade of the knife separately.
In my invention I construct a containing case preferably of tubular shape as shown in Fig. 2, of two tubes of approximately-equal lengths, the outside diameter of the tube marked A being approximately the same as the inside diameter of the tube B, the object being that tube B can be inserted in tube A readily but snugly. Near one end of each of said tubes A and B I have pressed a flange for the purpose of having an object to catch hold of when pulling the said tubes apart. The inside diameter of the ends of the said tubes nearest said flanges b is reduced and is threaded with a female thread. I then construct separately a knife blade and a fork blade of approximately the same length as the said tubes A and B, and of a width smaller than the inside diameter of tubes A and B, the purpose being that said knife and fork blades shown as Figs. 6 and 5 can be inserted inside said containing case. The said fork and knife blades terminate at the ends opposite the points thereof with a screw which fits the female threads in said tubes A and B. If the combination knife and fork is adjusted as shown in Fig. 1, and it is desired to ad just the blades of the knife and fork to their handles for use, I catch hold of said flanges Z) and pull the containing case apart, after which I screw the fork blade into the end of one half of such containing case, or tube, as shown in Fig. 3, and screw the knife blade in the other half of such containing case or tube as shown in Fig. 4.
I am aware that combination knives and forks are not entirely new.
What I do claim as my invention, and upon which I desire Letters Patent is:
The combination of a containing case constructed of tubes of approximately equal lengths, having slightly different diameters so the one will slide approximately its entire length snugly into the other, each of such tubes being open at one end, and the inside diameter of the other end being reduced and threaded, in combination with a knife blade and fork blade of a less width than the inside diameter of the smaller tube and of approximately the same length, so said knife blade and fork blade can be easily inserted therein, said knife blade and fork blade each terminating at one end with a screw fitted to the threadsin the reduced ends of either of said tubes, all substantially as described.
