PARER, sLioER, AND conse.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 339,542, dated April 6, 1886.
Application filed October 29, 1885. Serial No. 181,215. (No model.)
T0 @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Pnrnnnon TENNEY GATES, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Parer, Slicer, and Corer for Fruit and Vegetables, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to an instrument which has all the uses of a parer, a slicer, a corer, and a speck-remover.
By a diligent and systematic study in the application ofthe principles of the science of invention, and by trials of successively improved devices, I have succeeded in effecting such important improvements that the device is at once adapted to meet the wants of all concerned in a very effectual and superior manner, which is the main object sought to be accomplished.
The invention has the specific object of providing an instrument embodying a combination which shall be so useful and convenient that all housekeepers shall desire to bein possession of the same.
My invention primarily consists of a handle, provided with a parer, slicer, and speck-re mover, all constructed in one piece and secured to said handle, and of a Gering-ring, also secured to said handle.
In order to illustrate the practical manner of carrying out the invention, and to enable others to construct and use the same, drawings are hereunto annexed and described, in which similar characters of reference repre sent corresponding elem-ents.
Figure 1 is a general View of three of the instruments packed in a box. Figs. 2, 3, and et show some applications ol' the instrunient.
The device embodying my invention consists of the combination of a blade, A, of sheet metal, bent into two longitudinal grooves, as shown in the drawings, to form a cuttingedge, B, and having a longitudinal slot, C, cut out along the crown or bend D of theblade, forming a discharge-opening having curved ends, C, a speck-remover, E, upon the end of the blade, the above named elements being formed of but a single piece of metal, a handle, F, a coring-ring, @shaving cnttingedges (iK-one upon one or both sides of the ring-and located upon said handle, a slot, H, and hole, I, (shown dotted) in one end of said handles, projections K and L to said ring, the former being longer than the other and provided with a hook, M, and pins N and N, passing through said handle, the former passing within said hook and the latter at the end of the projection L. p
In Fig. 2 the speck-remover is represented as removing a speck from the potato O,while P represents the conical hole left by the removal of a speck.
Fig. 3 shows thering in the act of removing a decayed portion, Q, leavingahole similar to R.
Fig. A shows the ring removing a core, S, from the fruit T.
I lay no claim to the shape of the knifeblade or parer, as such a shape is shown in Brocks Patent No. 297,748, April 29, 1884, (apple parer and slicer,) assigned to me on or about October 80, 1884, the assignment having been duly recorded at the Patent Oilice.
l. A combined parer, slicer, and corer, cousisting of a blade, A, of sheet metal, bent or creased longitudinally, as described, to form a cutting-edga', and having a longitudinal slot, C, cnt out along the crown or bend D of the blade, forming a discharge-opening, a speck-remover, E, upon the end of the blade and integral therewith, a handle, F, to said blade, and an adjustable coring-ring, G, upon the handle, substantially as described.
2. A combined parer, slicer, and-corer, consisting ofthe blade A, of sheet metal, bent or creased longitudinally, as shown in the drawings, to form a cutting-edge, B, and having a longitudinal slot, O, cut out along `the crown or bend D of the blade, forming a discharge opening having curved ends C, a speck-remover, E, upon the end of the blade, the above-named elements being composed of but a single piece of metal, a handle, F, a coringring, Gr, to said handle, a slot, H, and
hole` I in ysaid handle, projections K and L` my invention I'have signed my name, in presto said ring, the former being longer` than the ence of two witnesses, this 16th day of Octo other, and provided with a hook, M, and ber, 1885. pins N and N', passing through said handle, PHILEMON TENNEY GATES. 5 the former passing within said .hook and the itnessesz Y letter at the end of the projection L. CHARLES P. HoUsUM,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as EDWARD P. THOMPSON.
