purposes, for which tags and labels are generally and. commercially used.

The object of my invention is to provide means for readily and conveniently applying such label or tag, without perforating, piercing or engaging through the goods or articles to be marked.

Another object of my invention is to provide a tag or label with fastening means of flexible or bendable material, comprising a hook projected from the tag, with the goods adapted to engage between the hook, and bent or folded therewith upon itself and tag, securely connecting the same.

Another object of my invention is to provide a tag with flexible or bendable material projected therefrom, adapted to be clipped or engaged with the goods and folded upon the tag to form a look by one or more laps.

The features of the invention are more fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a clip formed of bent wire detached from the tag or label and forming the fastening means therefor. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a tag having a clip, as illustrated in Fig. l, and primarily slipped over the edges of the piece of fabric and illustrating one of the steps of applying the tag. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a further side elevation, showing the clip and fabric bent or folded over upon themselves and the tag to securely attach the various members. Figs. 5 and 6 are, respectively, front and side elevations of a portion of the ticket, illustrating a modified form of clip, formed of sheet metal.

The feature of my invention is to provide improved tag or labels of that class which has secured thereto a metallic clip or the like, by which the label is secured to the goods, but in this instance, is secured without perforating or piercing the goods.

To this end, my invention broadly consists of forming a clip or attaching member of readily bendable or foldable material, adapted to be primarily clipped to the goods, and the goods and clip bent or folded over together, to securely connect the two, without danger of accident of removal or loss of the tag, or, in any wise injuring the goods.

In Figs. 1 to 4 of the drawings, the tag or label therein shown consists of a card or other material at, having secured to one end a clip 5, which is preferably formed of bent wire of a readily foldable or bendable nature, having the two legs 0, the free ends of which are passed through the ticket from one side and securely clamped on the reverse side, as at d.' It is obvious, however, that these ends may be variously clamped or secured upon the tag, without departing from the features of my invention. The legs are extended outward and preferably slightly deflected in the direction of the tag, as illustrated at e, and converge toward one another, as at f, finally being again separated to form a loop, and said loop being bent to form a hook-member g. From Figs. 2, 3, and 4., it will be seen that the hook g is first passed over the edges of the goods or fabric, and then the fabric and clip are bent or folded one upon the other in such a manner that a double thickness of clip and fabric are superposed, as clearly shown in Fig. l, securely attaching the ticket and goods together. The bend or fold of the clip and goods being preferably made coincident with the marginal edge of the tag or ticket, thereby bringing the clip beneath or over the tag, and substantially flush with its edge, whereby the tag is secured to the goods, without presenting any projection or obstruction. This latter feature is a marked improvement in fastening means for a tag, in that it oflers no protrusion for engagement or entanglement with other pieces or goods or mar or injure the same. In fact, as illustrated, when the tag is applied, the ends of the legs or limbs 0 are unexposed.

In the modifications shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the clip or attaching member is formed from a single piece of sheet metal instead of wire, in which two prongs h are provided for securing it to the ticket or label a with the general contour in edge view, being substantially the same as shown in Figs. 1 to 4. In both cases, the part between the hook g or g and that which is attached to the ticket may be straight if required, but the slightly deflected form permits the ticket to be more readily attached to the goods in the first instance.

I do not wish to limit myself to a label with a particular form of clip or attaching means shown and described, as it is obvious that the outline or contour can be variously modified within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having described my invention, I claim l. A tag provided with fastening means comprising a wire looped to bring the ends parallel with each other with said ends se- 2 cured to the tag, the looped end formed with a hook bend adapted to receive the material to be tagged and to be folded therewith into bends, the loop forming the innermost bend.

2. A tag provided with fastening means 2 comprising a bendable member, having an end secured to the tag, with its opposite end arranged to receive a material to be tagged and folded therewith into lapped bends upon the reverse side of the tag, with the 3 fastening means secured and folded so as to conceal its ends.
