Be it known that I, CHARLES W. SHEP- PARD, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State of Wisconsin, have 5 invented-certain 'new and useful Improvementsin 'lagFasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention relates to tag-fasteners; and

to it eonsistsin certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts, to be hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings, and subsequently claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a face view of my device applied to a tag; Fig. 2, a horizontal section on line 2 2, Fig. '1; and Fig. 3, a perspective view of my device.

Referring by letter to the drawings, A rcprescnts a piece of sheet metal that is preferably stamped out in some ornamental design, and at the same stamping provided with one, two, or more prongs, l3, struck up at right angles to the body portion of the device. The upper edge, 0, of the device is bent over ping of the points of the spring-hanger 1) be-' ing that my device may be suspended from a convenient nail or book until it is desired to secure it to goods-such as dress-goods-when the said overlapping ends can be quickly separated for such attachment, and after such use the hanger can operate again like a ring. Another advantage of these overlapping ends lies in the fact that thereby the hanger is guarded against accidental detachment l'rom' the fabrics or other goods to which it may have been secured, while, as indicated, the fact that the ends pass each other enables this device to be used equally well as a hanger on around a spring-wire that is preferably sharp-' cued at both ends and bent to form a hanggoods which the ends could not readily penetrate by hanging the device, like a ring, on any projecting portion of such goods.

My device is intended for attachment to advertising-cards, tags of all descriptions, and to such other articles for which it may be applicable.

In the drawings I have shown my device connected to a card, E, the prongs B of said device being pressed through the card and bent down in either direction against the back thereof; but said prongs are prcferabl y bent outward, so as to increase the holding power of the device. The device being attached to the card, the latter is suspended by means of the hanger D, and in case said card is designed for attachment to dry-goods the preferred construction of said hanger will facilitate the operation; or, in other words, there will be two points that enter the goods from opposite directions.

By the construction above described it will be noticed that the prongs B of my device may be readily bent upwhen it is desirable to change the card suspended thereby, and that said device may be indefinitely used. An-

other advantage of my invention lies in the fact that there is little, if any, liability of the card being torn at the point of attachment with my device, as is often thecasc where said card is directly pinned to the goods or other support, the latter being the common means of attachment for display or advertising cards.

Having thus fully described my invention, wluit I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

As an improved article of manufacture,.a tag-fastener that comprises a. piece of sheet metal having one or more prongs stamped out therefrom and one edge thereof turned over.

and the spring-wire hanger engaged by said I turned-over edge and provided with overlapping ends, substantially as set forth.
