Description
I. E. YORK. STOCKING STRETGHING D EVIGBJ APPLICATION FILED OOT- 5, 1911.
Patented Apr. 9, 1912.
Jaye/111041- .Z."E, YOICF K- ISAAC EDWARD YORK, OF WATERFORD, ONTARIO, CANADA.
STOCKING-STRETCHING DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC EDWARD York, of the town of Waterford, in the county of Norfolk, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stocking-Stretching Devices, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to improvements in a stocking stretching device and'the object of the invention is to devise a simple, cheap, readily'adjustable device which may be inserted in the foot of a damp stocking so that as the stocking dries it prevents the shrinkage ofthe same and it consists essentially of a heel member designed to fit into the heel of the stocking and a looped member designed to fit into the foot. portion of the stocking, the members being adjustably connected together so as to fit any length of sock or stocking foot hereinafter more particularly explained by the following specification.
Figure 1, is a pers metive view of my device showing the foot portion of the stocking in position thereon and in dotted lines. Fig. 2, is a cross section through the adjustable connection between the heel and foot portion of the device.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
A is a plate curved up into the. form shown so as to fit the heel of the sock or stocking and so as to form a handle A. i
B is a looped member fitting at the front the foot portion (1 of the sock or stocking C. The looped member B extends rearwardly at each side and then curves inwardly at B and then baclnvardly onitself so as to form a subsidiary loop B located between the sides of the loop B. The loop B forms a slot for a purpose which will hereinafter be described.
D is a clip provided with recesses l) designed to fit over the side member of the subsidiary loop B and against the bottom of the plate A. The clip 1) is provided with a threaded stem 1)? extending through an orifice A of the plate A.
D is a butterfly nut threaded on the stem 1) so as to draw up the clip D and clamp the sides of the loop B against the plate A.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 5, 1911.
Patented Apr. 9, 1912. Serial 110.652.9958.
' It will be readilyseen that when it is de sired to adjust my device to fit any length of stocking all that itis necessary to do is to loosen the nut D and slide the members A and B longitudinally of each other when the nut D may be again tightened. My device is then inserted in the foot of the stocking when the stockingis in a wet state so that the loop B extends into the foot thereof and the rear end of the plate A into the heel portion of the seek 'or stocking. The stocking is then dried my device preventing the shrinkage of the stocking during such drying process. V
It will be readily seen that my device is simple and easily adjustable and is particularly adapted for ordinary household use where stockings often become useless owing to their shrinkage to too small a size.
What I claim as my invention is:
,ljA stocking stretching. device comprising two members designed to fit the heel and'foot portion of the stocking respectively, one of said partscomprising a substantially flat plate having a contracted forward end and 'a curved rear end and the other member comprising a loophaving a contracted inner end. said inner end having the side'members thereof bent backward upon themselves to form a subsidiary loop extending between the main sides of the loop a substantial distance to form a longitudinalislot, and means on said plate engaging said slot to clamp the plate and loop together.
2. A stocking stretching device comprising a plate and loop mem ber h'avlng'a cone ti-acted inner end thecontracted sides of ISAAC EDWARD YORK.
