The present invention relates to devices for stretching neckties or cravats and consists in the. combinations and arrangements of elements hereinafter described and particularly set forth in the accompanying claims.

The invention has for its purpose to provide a device of this character which may be conveniently applied to a cravat or necktie of any size or style for the purpose of keeping the same with the lining thereof, in

substantially its original form to the end of avoiding the necessity for discarding a tie after the same has been worn but a few times, which condition now prevails.

A'further purpose of the invention resides in that the tie form or stretcher does not require the use of a heating iron which kills the fabric and is otherwise objectionable; and one wherein the device per se serves as a suitable supporting device for the tie when in operative position.

The invention is disclosed by way of i1lustration in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 illustrates the application of the device to a tie; Fig. 2 is an elevational view of the device per 80; Fig. 3 is a similar view taken from the opposite side thereof; and Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on theline 4-4 of Fig. 2.

Referring to the construction 1n further detail and wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts in the dif ferent views shown, 5 represents an ordinary founin-hand tie or cravat having the usual lining 6, which may be of any ordinary size or style and to be stretched or kept in substantially its original or new form.

The device consists of a main body portion 7 having converging side edges 8, to which is adjustably attached the two side members 9, whose respective outer edges 10 are also converged after the manner shown.

The adjustable connections between said main and side portions 7 and 9 consist of a plurality of hollow rivets, or pins, 11, that are Secured to the side members 9 and Work within slots 12 formed in the body posed-in then pull down tightl portion 7. The several slots 12 which are disarallel relation to the end that the side mem ers 9 may be moved laterally in uniform manner.. A metal piece 13 is secured to the lower edge of the metal por t1on 7 by the rivets 14 and has an upturned portion l5zproviding a groove or channelway that receives the lower edge portions 16 of the two side members 9 as shown.

The side members 9 are normally distended by means of two sprin s 17 and 18 located respectively at the end s of the device and on opposite sides thereof. The spring 171s of the double-bow type and is secured to the middle section 7 as at 19, while the s ngle-bow spring 18 is secured to only the side members as at 20.

A spr ng clip 21 is secured to a member 7 by a suitable clamping member 22 and has for its purpose to engage the lining 6 of the tie and receive the folds of the tie proper in the way mdicated in Fig. 1. he device may, of course, be constructed of any suitable material such as fiber suitably treated, or metal (e. 9. tin) having an enameled finish and it is essential only that the material be of the requisite strength commensurate with appropriate thickness. In the use of the article the steps to be followed are substantially the following: Lay the wrinkled tie or cravat on a flat surface with the back thereof up and then insert the device with the clip side up. (See Fig; 1.) 1 Smooth the tie on to the form evenly and then pull the lining down and shp it under the lower part of the clip and to remove any wrmkles. The inner si e edges of the tie are now to be inserted within the clip and again pulled down tightly to remove the wrinkles. The tie may be very sli htly dampened at the front and back an the holder hung up until the tie is sufiiciently dried when it will be. found that the same is uite free of wrinkles and closely resem les its original appearance.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is:

1. A neck-tie stretcher comprising a flat body portion, and a pair of flat side portions adjustably mounted to overlap said flat body ortion, substantially as set forth.

A neck-tie stretcher compris ng a flat body portion having convergmg Slde edges, a pair of fiat side portions having converging outer edgesadjustably mounted on said flat bodyportion, and resihent connect on between said side portions normally actlng to distend the same, substantially as set forth.

4. A neck-tie stretcher comprising a fiat body portion having converging side edges, a pair 'of flat side portions hav ng converging outer edges, adjustable pm and slot connections between said body and side portions, and spring members normally actmg to distend said side portions, substantially as set forth.

5. A neck-t1e stretcher comprising a flat body portion having converging side edges, a pair of flat side portions having converging outer edges, adjustable connections between said body and side portions, spring members. normally acting to distend said side portions, and a clip mounted on the body portion adapted for holding the lining of the tie while stretching, substantiallyas set forth.

6. A neck-tie stretcher comprising relatively movable flat and overlapping portions constructed to engage between the folds of the tie, and a device mounted thereon adapted to receive and hold flat thelining of the tie, substantially as set forth.
