Description

GEORG CZIMEG, 0F GRATZ, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
CROSS-JOINT BETWEEN FLAT IRON BARS.
Specification. of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 2, 1912.
Application filed January 20, 1911. Serial No. 603,772.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORG CZIMEG, a subject of the Austro-Hungarian Emperor, and resident of 6 Sporgasse, Gratz, 1, Austria- Hungary, havel invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cross-Joints Between Flat Iron Bars, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a cross joint between two flat iron bars, by means oi.E which it is obtained that the two thus joined bars will securely clasp each other. VVit-h this object in View the slot in each of the flat iron bars, into which the other bar is to be fit-ted, is not cut out full, but only slitted along two sides whereupon the thus severed ear is bent out.
In the accompanying drawing a cross joint according to the present invention consisting of two flat iron bars joined at right angles to each other is exemplified.
Figure l is one of the flat iron bars alone. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the complete cross joint.
Each of the flat iron bars a and Z), to be joined is slitted at the point where the cross joint is to be made transversely alongv a plane c, Fig. 1, to a depth corresponding to the width of the section of the second bar to be fitted therein, and thereupon along a plane d longitudinally to a length corresponding to the thickness of the respective bar to be fitted in the slot. The ear e thus severed by these two slits is thereupon bent over at a suitable angle which in the present instance shown is a right angle. This ear will then, on the two flat iron bars c and being fitted together not only afford a broad abutment but also cause the members of the cross joint to adjust themselvcs'to the proper angle, .in the instance shown, a right angle, and clasp each other. By dipping the joint into molten zinc, tin or the like, the cross joint may be easily soldered.
Cross joints of the hereinbefore mentioned kind may be used for a great variety of purposes, such as pigeon-hole insets for cases and bottle-trays, for railings and other structures made of flat irons.
I claim:
A cross joint between two flat iron bars in which each of the iron bars is provided at the crossing point with a transverse slit corresponding in depth to the width of the section of the second bar to be introduced therein and with a longitudinal slit proceeding from said transverse slit corresponding in length to the thickness of the iron bar to be introduced therein, the thus severed ear being bent over at a suitable angle, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two sub scribing witnesses.
GEORG CZIMEG. Witnesses:
ADA MARIA BERGER, AUGUST FUGGER.
