Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 2c, 1909.
Application filed February 25, 1908. Serial No. 417,778.
-T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES NEEDS, a subject'of the King of Great Britain, residing at Fakenham, in the county of Norfolk, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reinforced Concrete Posts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the construction of vide reinforcing members which are eXceedplastic posts, thev object being to provide very novel reinforcing means for the same, whereby the plastic material from which the body is formed will be strengthened and held in its proper position.
Another object of my invention is to proformed of any suitable cement or concrete,
which is molded into the desired she e, and has strips of wire netting B, B and embedded therein, whichextend the whole length of the post and are of'the same width. One of these strips extends along the middle of the post and the others on ei her side thereof adjacent to the faces of the post. Between the middle strip B, and the outer strips are inserted or corrugated strips of Wire netting C and D, which are crimped to form a compound curve in a transverse section, so as to fit snugly between the center and outer strips and'extend the whole length of the post. i
I of course do not wish to limit myself to the use of Wire netting, as. perforated sheet metal may be used instead where a strong construction is desired.
It is to be understood that i may in carrying out my invention make use of a concrete or composition of any suitable character, which may vary in accordance with particular requirements, butthis body of concrete 18 in all cases reinforced or strengthened by means of the wire netting skeleton in the manner hereinbefore described. It is also to be understood that I may use in connection with this skeleton any suitable angle bars or like structure as is shown in my other application for patent pending at this time.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided very novel reinforcing members, which are so arranged within the plastic body, that the body will be greatly reinforced longitudinally and transversely.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-v ters Patent is:
l. The combination with a post formed of plastic material, of longitudinal strips of Wire netting embedded therein and crimped strips of wire netting arranged between said longi tudinal strips.
2. A post formed of a body of plastic material having opposed strips of wire netting embedded therein, adjacent to its surface and through its middle, and crimped strips of wire netting arranged between the middle and the outer strips.
3. A plastic fence post comprising a body having strips of wire netting embedded therein and spaced apart, crimped strips of wire netting arranged between said strips, said strips being of the same Width and length as the body, for the purpose set forth.
4. A post composed of plastic material having strips of wire netting embedded therein adjacent to its surface and through its middle, in combination with strips of Wire netting arranged between the middle and outer strips, said intermediate strips each being given a compound curve, the middle and ends of said curvedportion contacting with the middle reinforcing strip.
in testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
JAMES NEEDS.
