ETI-IBTGRT CLAYTON RICHMOND, OF TACOMA, WASHINGTON.
SOUVENIR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 29, 1909.
Application filed March 6, 1909. Serial No. 481,589.
To all 10. mm it may concern:
Be it known that I, E'rnenn'r (l. .ltionnoun, a citizen of the United States, and a resident oi Tacoma, in the county oi Pierce and Qtate oi Washington, have invented a new and improved Souvenir, of which the following a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention is an improvement in souvenirs, the same consistii'lg of a body having the opposite side faces inclining inwardly l'rom each end toward the transverse center and having the edges scored to simulate a package of shingles, the representation being l'urthe! perfected by plz'icing cross-bars at opposite sides oi. the contracted. central portion oi the body, joining the adjacent ends of the bars by n'ietallic straps and nailing the overlapping ends oi the straps and bars to the body.
.iielerence is to be had to the accon'ipanying drawings forming a part of this speciilcation, in which similar characters ol' relcrence indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view oi one Form of the souvenir; Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective views respectively oi an outer and inner stave oi the body shown in Fig. i; and Fig. 4: is a perspective View of another lorm oi the souvenir.
In the construction oi the souvenir, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, a rectangular body 5 has the opposite side faces inclining inwardly from each end toward the transverse center, making the center of the body oi contracted thickness. in both "forms of the invention, the inclined faces of the body are longitudinally scored, as indicated at 6, and vertically scored at the ends, as indicated at 7, with the vertical scoring breaking joint and imparting to the body the a mcarancc of a package of shingles. This appearance is rendered more realistic by a tie oi cross-bars S at opposite sides oi the body on the contracted central portion thereof and connecting the adjacent ends of the bars by straps 9, the straps having overlapping end portions which are nailed to the bars, the nails passing into the body.
in the construction. shown in Fig. l, in which the body is oi a single piece, the e'il'cct ot a shingle package is made complete by forming shouldms i0 crosswise of the body on the opposite inclined l'aces, and scoring the side edges and ends oi the body in planes at right-angles to the vertical scoring 7, the scoring being oi a nature at the side edges oi the body to represent the inner ends of the shingles overlapping, as in the case oi a full size package oi" shingles.
The construction shown in Fig. 1 dili'crs i'roin that oi l ig. 4- only in making the body up of a number of separate stavcs 11, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the joints between these several stavcs serving the purpose oi the scorings intersecting the scoring mark 7, as when the body is oi a single piece.
Having thus described. my invention, claim as no 'and desire to secure by Letter Patent A souvenir comprising a body having the opposite side faces inclining inwardly from each end toward the transverse center and having the edges scored to simulate a package ol shingles.
2. A souvenir comprising a body having the opposite side faces inclining inwardly from each end toward the transverse center and havin the edges scored to simulate a package oi shingles, and crossbars extending across the contracted center oi the body and having connecting straps nailed thereto and to the body to represent a tie for the package.
in testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
