Description

uied tatet' FREDERICK W. FROST, O F SOMERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS.
Letters Patent No. 102,108, dated April 19, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEUTTER-FASTENER-S.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all to whom these presents.shallcome Be it known that I, FREDERICK W. FROST, of Somerville, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have made an invention of a new and useful Blind-Fastening; and I do hereby declarethe follow-ing to be a full, clear, and exact` description thereof, due reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification, and in which- Figures l and 2 are opposite side elevations;
Figure 3, a plan; and
Figure 4, a transverse and vertical section of such invention.
My invention consists in providing the double hook pivoted to the under side oi' the blind, with a spring and stop, in the manner hereinafter described.
In vthe drawingsa denotes the lower cross-bar of a blind, of ordinary construction.
b represents a. lever or catch-bar, fulcrumed horizontally to a bracket or pendant, c, fixed to the un# der side of-the blindbar, as represented, the catolihar being disposed at right angles to the longest plane of said blind-bar.
The catch-bar is formed with a hook, l or dupon each end, that marked :l being situated upon the inside of the blind, and operating with a staple or catch, e, xed to the window-sill in the ordinary manner, a portion of this window seat, in the present instance, being represented at fin the drawings.
The hook ll is placed uppermostor upon the upper side of the catch-bar, while the position of the hook d is reversed, that is, depends from the under side of the said bar, and is to operate in connection with a staple or catch, g, afixed to the outer side ofthe window-frame, or the adjacent portion of the house or structure to which the blind carrying my invention is attached. i
A short upright post or stop, h, is erectedupon the top of the catch-bar b, and so disposed as to abut against the under surface of the blind-bar or rail a, or the bracket from which the catch-bar is suspended, when either of the hooks d or d is locked to its respect-ive staple.
A plate or other spring, fi, is disposed between the under surface of the bracket c and the upper surface of' the catch-bar, and in -such relative position to the fnlcrum ot' the latter as to depress its outer end, or that-carrying the hook d', and as a consequence serving to force the post h in contact with the bottom of said bracket or the blind-lever rail a.
The catch-bar b is formed with an abutment, j, or j', situated opposite each hook d or d', thus creating a depression or notch, to embrace the staple e or g, as the case may be, and eectually prevent rattling or shaking of the blind. A
I am aware thatit is not new to pivot a double catch-bar to the under side of a blind, and this I do not claim; but
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Providing the blind-fastening, composed of the catchbar b formed and fulcrumed, as described, to the under side ofthe lower bar or rail of the blind with the post h and the spring i, the whole operating as herc-`
