Letters Patent No. 101,802, dated April 12, 1870.
IMPROVED ROCKER FOR CHAIRS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all persons to whom these presents may come:
Be it known that I, WILHELMINA JULIAXNA ZAKI-t- ZEWSKA, a citizen of Berlin, Prussia, have made a new and useful Invention, having reference to Roe ers for Chairs; and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, and
Figure 2 a rear view of a chair having my invention or improved rockers applied to it;
Figure 3 is a top view of one of the rockers; and
Figure 4 is a side elevation; and
Figure 5, a longitudinal section of it, as separate from the chair.
Tire object of the invention is to produce. a portable rocker, easily transportable and neadil y applicable to a common chair.
In the drawings A denotes a chair, of ordinary construction, pro vided with four legs.
B and B are the rockers, fastened to the legs by straps, a, going around the rungs b and through staples, c, projected ti-orn the opposite sides of the rockers.
In carrying out nry improvement, I form the rocker not only with a short mortise, d, projecting down from its upper edge and arranged near the frontend of the rocker, but with a much longer mortise, e, or groove, extended down into the rocker from its upper edge, and arranged in manner as represented in the draw- 'ingsr at the same time, to receive the foot of the opposite roar leg. Being longer than the front mortise, the longer or rear mortise will admit of the adaptation to itof the rear leg of almost any ordinary chair, whatever may be its distance from the trout leg when the latter is in the front mortise.
The rear mortise may be a groove, extended from .or near .the middle of the rocker, nearly or quite to the rear end oi such rocker, and the rocker may be constructed in two or rrrore parts, g 71-, hinged together, as shown at r, such being to enable the parts to be folded together for the convenience of package or transportation.
I provide the rocker, constructed and mortised as described, with the staples or their equivalents. I sometimes dispense with the staples, and make the rocker with slots going laterally through it from side to side, to receive the straps. Instead thereof, the fastening-straps may be fixed directly to the rocker;
What I claim as my invention may be stated as follows:
The conrbirration of devices or rocker, as described, composed of two or more sections, hinged together and provided with the short and longer nrortises d e, and with means, as explained, for fastenin such rocker to a chair, the whole being substantially and for use as specified.
WILHELMINA JULlANNA ZAKRZEWSKA.
