HANDLE-MOUNT.
Specification of Letters I'atent.
Patented Feb. 6, 1912.
w Application filed August 1, 1911. Serial No. 641,838.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. PARKER, citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Handle-Mounts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to handle it mounts adapted to be used upon plow stocks,
and has for its object to provide a simple mechanism for supporting plow handles which may be adjusted so that the handles may be pitched at a desired angle with relation to the forward portion of the plow beam, means also being provided whereby the handles may be adjusted longitudinally upon the mount and secured in adjusted positions.
The subject matter of the present invention is divided from my earlier application for patent for plow stock, filed May 26, 1911, Serial Number 629,671.
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a plow standard with the handle mount attached thereto; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same; Fig. 3 is an edge view of part of the handle mount; and Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view of the handle mount cut on the line 11 of Fig. 2.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawing by the same reference characters.
The mount is adapted to be used in conjunction with a plow standard 1 and which consists of spaced side bars 2. The mount consists of a handle lug 3 which is pivoted at its lower end as at 4 between the side bars 2. This luggradually diminishes. in transverse width from a point between its ends toward its upper end. That is to say, it is thickest at an intermediate point and reduces in thickness toward its upper end, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. The lug 3 is provided at its upper portion and at its opposite sides with channels 5, and within the said channels the lug is provided with elongated slots 6. A bolt 7 passes transversely through the lug 3 at a point below the channels 5. A brace 8 is pivotally secured at its forward end as at 9 between the side bars 2 of the standard 1 at a point above the lower end of the lug 3. The said brace 8 is provided at its rear end portion with branches 10 which straddle the intermediate portion of the lug 3 and which are provided with elongated slots 11 that receive the bolt 7. Handles 12 are attached at their lower ends to the upper rear portion of the lug 3 by means of bolts 13 which pass transversely through the said handles and through the elongated slots 6 provided in the lug 3. Braces 14: are pivotally connected at their upper ends with the intermediate portions of the handles 12 and are provided at their lower portions with elongated slots 15 which are secured to the upper portion of the standard 1 by means of a bolt 16. Therefore it will be seen that by loosening the bolts 13, the handles 12 maybe shifted longitudinally with relation to the lug 3, whereby the said handles may be lengthened or shortened as desired. When properly adjusted the said bolts are tightened, when the said handles are secured in adjusted po sitions. Again by loosening the bolts 7 and 16 the handles 12 and lug 3 may be swung upon the pivot 9 so that the handles may be inclined at a desired angle with relation to the beam to which the standard is attached. When the handles have a desired pitch, as last above indicated, the said bolts are tightened and the handles are secured.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. In combination with a standard having spaced side bars, a handle mount comprising a lug pivoted between the bars, a brace pivoted between the bars at a point above the handle lug, and a bolt and slot connection between the said brace and the intermediate portion of the lug.
2. In combination with a standard having spaced side bars, a handle mount comprising a lug pivoted between the side bars and reducing in transverse width from a point between its ends toward its upper end, a brace pivoted between the side bars of the standard above the lug, and a bolt and slot connection between the brace and the lug at a point between the ends of the lug.
3. In combination with a standard having spaced side bars, a handle mount comprising a lug pivoted between the bars, said lug having at its upper portion and at its opposite sides channels and having elongated slots which connect said channels, handles received at their lower ends within the chan 2 I m e 4 1,016,576
nels, securing bolts passing transversely through the handles and the slots, a brace pivoted between the side bars at a point above the lug, and bolt and slot connection 5 between the brace and the intermediate por- 10 the side bars at a point above the handle lug and having at its rear portion branches which straddle the intermediate portion of the handle lug, said branches having elongated slots, and a securing bolt passing through said slots in the handle lug.
