PLOW-STOCK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 413,682, dated October 29, 1889.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JEssE LEE POOLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Martinsville, in the county of Spartanburg and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow-Stocks; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The special object of the invention is to improve single-foot plow-stocks, so that the wear can be readily taken up, while the foot can be easily adjusted at a proper angle to the ground; also, to keep the stock perfectly steady.

In the drawings, A represents a plow-stock having the usual foot B, pivoted at b and embracing the stock, so that it may be raised or lowered to get the required angle to the ground.

O is the clamp, having threaded ends on which screw the nuts c c, a washer c being usedl intermediately. This clamp is of course very old; but I make the lower part of clamp somewhat thicker than usual and form the hole c2 therein. Through this I pass the screw-bolt D, which passes between the arms b b of the foot and through the cross-plate E. On this cross-plate rests the head of bolt, while the threaded end receives a nut d.

My particular means for holding the foot to the clamp has the advantage of permitting an accurate adjustment of the foot. By loosening the nut on the bolt and those Oon the clamp said foot can be set at any angle with the ground. The nuts being then tightened up, the foot is held securely just where Y it is wished to be and the stock is always kept steady. Most stocks have no way of taking up the wear on the parts that hold the foot, and this necessary wear causes them to work loose and to not run well. This objection is entirely obyiated by screw-coupling the clamp to the foot, as I have done.

What I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-

The combination, with a plow-beam and a bifurcated standard pivoted thereto, of a yoke adjustably clamped to said beam and connected by a nut, plate, and screw with the standard, the latter being supported rearwardly against the draft-strain by the yokeclamp, as shown and described.
