To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ELIAS HANKINS', a citizen of the United States, residing at Streetman, in the county of Freestone and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to plows and comprehends an improvement over my Patent No. 709,901.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a plow including a novelly ad-- justed stock and an adjustable colter knife, said stock being composed of two angular side bars connected in spaced relationship and having a flanged block secured between their upper ends.

The invention also aims to provide a plow of this nature, which shall be ofextremely simple construction, cheap to manufacture, strong, durable, and capable of quick and easy adjustment.

With these and other objects in view, as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.

For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which,

Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved plow, Fig. 2 is a similar view, partly in section, Fig. 3 is a fragmentary elevation, partly broken away, showing the connection between the stock and landside, Fig 4c is a sectional view taken upon the plane of line 4-4 of Fig. 2, and, Fig. 5 is a top plan view of my invention with the plow proper removed.

Referring in detail to the drawing by numeral, 1 designates the plow beam having the curved lower end 2, which is provided at its extremity with the rearwardly projecting portion 3. A pair of handles 4 are connected at their lower ends by means of the fastener 5, to the lower end of the curved portion 2 and are braced by the bars 6.

A landside, comprising a plate 7 reduced as at 8, and extended upwardly, as at 9, is rigidly secured to the beam 1, by means of the fastener 10 and screw bolt 11, said last mentioned bolt extending through an opening formed in the off-set portion 3 and having a nut 12 threaded upon its extremity. A

plate 13 is secured to the portion 3 of the beam 1 upon the opposite side from the landside, by means of the bolt 11 and nut 12, and extends rearwardly a short distance in spaced relationship to said landside. A screw bolt 14: and nut 15 secure the inner end of said plate 13 to the landside 7. A colter knife 16 extends between the landside 7 and the plate 13 and may be clamped against movement by tightening the nut 15. It will be seen that this manner of connecting the colter knife permits of the same being longitudinally connected and also permits the use of a colter knife of a relatively long length. I consider this one of the primary features of my improvement because my colter knife will last for a number of years, whereas those now in use seldom last more than one year.

A plow stock, generally designated 17, and comprising the angular side bars 18, is pivotally connected adjacent one end to the upturned end 9 of the landside, by means of the bolt 19, which may be run through the opening 19. A spacing block 20 is rigidly secured between the side bars 18 by means of the fasteners 21 and serves to securely hold the bars in proper spaced relationship and also serves a purpose to be hereinafter stated. The upper ends of the side bars 18 are slightly off-set, as indicated at 22'and pass on opposite sides of the curved portion of the plow beam 1. A bolt 23 extends through the side bars 18 upon one side of the plow beam and the bolt 2-1 passes through the free ends of said bars upon the opposite side of the plow beam. It will be seen that by tightening the nuts upon these bolts, that it is possible to clamp the plow stock 17 tightly upon the plow beam.

To prevent the free ends of the side bars 18 bending unduly when the nut is tightened upon the bolt 24, I provide a slotted block 26 having oppositely extending flanges 27 formed adjacent its upper edge. The flanges 27 engage the upper edges of the plow stock and prevent a rotation of the block 26. The block 26 is somewhat thinner than the portion 2 of the plow beam so as to permit the sides of the plow stock engaging the same tightly. The inner edge of the block 26, by engaging, the plow beam, will assist in holding the same against movement relative to the plow stock. I consider the manner in which the plow stock is adjustably connected to the plow beam and the manner in which the block 26 operates to be important, features of my improvement.

A plow point 28 is bolted-to an in cross-section and carries the threaded stud 3.0, which PTQJGCtS between theside bars of the plow stock 17 and has'a nut 81'threaded upon its inner end. It will be noted that;
