F. E. WBRNTZ.
ADJUSTABLE LANDSIDE SHOE FOR FLOWS- No. 574,293. Patented Dec. 29, 1896.
vwewto'c j. 1 mmmf UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK E. WERNTZ, OF MEINERT, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF FOUR-FIFTI-IS TO DANIEL BALLENGER, BEN BALLENGER, AND WILLIAM ALLAN, OF GOLDEN CITY, AND E. GLAMMIER, OF DADE COUNTY, MISSOURI.
ADJUSTABLE L AND SlDE- SHOE FOR PLOWS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 574,293, dated December 29, 1896.
Application filed July 14, 1896. Serial No. 599,155. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK E. WERNTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meinert, in the county of Dade and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adj ustahle Landside-Shoes for Flows; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has relation to plows, and more particularly to means for adjusting the removable landside-shoe; and the object is :5 to provide a plow with an adj ustably-removable shoe, so that it can be adjusted to regulate the sheer or rake of the point in a simple and convenient manner; and to this end the novelty consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings the same letters of reference indicate the same parts of z 5 the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plow embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the landside side. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the shoe adjusted to give 0 the plow-point a greater incline. Fig. 4 is a similar view with the landside-plate removed. Fig. 5 is a side elevation taken from the shoe side, showing the slotted lug for adjusting the shoe; and Fig. 6 is a transverse section on the line of the bolt.
A is the landside; B, the shoe; 0, the land side-plate, and D the plow-point, which is removably secured in the recess a in the forward end of the landside A by a countersunk 4o head-bolt a.
B is the shoe, and its forward end is provided With an integral dovetail lug b, which interlocks a similar reversely-shaped recess a in the under side of the landside A, and the rear end of said shoe B is formed with an up Wardly-projecting integral slotted arm I), the slot b of which receives a bolt 0, passing through the landside-p1ate O, the shoe B, and
said slotted arm I), and as the lug b and recess a form a hinge it will be seen that the rear end of the shoe B can be adjusted to give the point more or less rake to enter the ground.
As will be seen in Fig. 6, the landside is formed with an integral depending flange a on one side and on the other with the landside-plate O, the bolt d holding them firmly together, and between them is located the forward end of the shoe B, having the dovetail hinge, as above described.
Although I have specifically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention, I do not de sire to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications may be made as clearly fall within the scope of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s
1. A plow comprising the landside A provided with the recess ain which is removably secured the plow-point D, and the dovetail recess a in which is hinged the lug b on the forward end of the shoe B, the rear end of which is formed with an integral slotted arm I), by means of which the rear end of said shoe is adj ustably secured to said landside by a bolt a, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A plow comprising the landside A provided with'the recess a, the removable point D secured in said recess by a bolt a, and having the dovetail recess o in combination with the shoe B formed with the integral dovetail lug b, the internal slotted arm Z7, and the landside-plate O secured to said shoe by the bolts 0 and 07, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK E. WERNTZ.
