PATENT' OFFICE.
AMBROSE F. JACKSON, OF OKLAHOMA, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 501,945, dated July 25, 1893.
Application filed April 14, 1893. Serial No.4'70,357. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, AMBROSE F. JACKSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oklahoma, inthe county of Oklahoma and Territory of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Plow, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in plows, the objects in view being to produce a plow of cheap and simple construction and of exceedingly light draft, and especially adapted for plowing stubble and sod, and to avoid by reason of the peculiar construction given the plow the resulting side-draft.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain features of construction hereinafter specified and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings:-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plow constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan of the plow-shares in detail.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in both the figures of the drawings.
1-1 designate, a pair of beams, the same being coupled at their front ends by means of a coupling-clevis 2 and suitable bolts 3. The beams 1-1 are of unequal length and diverge so that one be'am extends in rear of the other. Secured adj ustably in this instance to the beams 11 at their rear ends by means of adjustable couplings 4-4 is a pair of curved goose-neck standards 55 which are of equal length, and consequently one extends in rear of the other by reason of the difierence in length between the beams. A space-bar 6 is interposed between the standards and bolted thereto, thus serving to maintain the standards in proper relative position.
The plow proper consists of two moldboards 7-7, one being bolted to the foot of each plowstandard, and these moldboards are provided with shares 88, the front share terminating in the usual point 9. The front moldboard and share have a landside 10, and the rear share is elongated sidewise toward the other plow and is connected to the lower edge of its landside, as shown, thus forming a point 11, from which it is gradually curved backward to the landside thereof forming the cutting edge 12. The share 8 has its rear edge provided with a curved recess, and in the same is seated the section 8, so that when the point of the share becomes worn, the same may be removed and a new one substituted. A handle 13 is bolted to the rear standard and rises therefrom and is braced by means of an inclined metal strap 14 which is connected at its upper end to the outer end of the transverse tie-rod 15 and has its lower end bolted to said standard. A metal strap 16 is bolted to the upper rear end of the rear moldboard 7, and is also secured at its upper end to the lower end of asecond handle section 17, the said tie-rod 15 also passing through the strap 16 as well as the strap or brace 14 heretofore mentioned. An inclined brace 18 is held against the strap 16 by means of the tie-rod 15, and has its lower end extended diagonally across and secured to the handle 13. 7o
' A plow constructed in accordance with this description will be found exceedingly useful in plowing stubble or sod. Theplow herein shown is especially constructed for plowing stubble, the change required to adapt it v for sod being very slight, simply consisting in altering the angles of the moldboards and shares and increasing their length. The plow is adapted to'perform the same work as an ordinarygang-plow,although itoperatesmuch lighter and will require but half the power to drag it. It moves in a straight line, and all side draft is avoided.
Having described my invention, what I claim is 1. A plow, consisting of the two standards arranged side by side and one in advance of the other, combined with the front and rear moldboards and shares, the share of the rear plow being extended forwardly and laterally 0 connected to the opposite plow, substantially as specified. v V
2. The herein described plow, consisting of the two standards arranged side by side and one in advance of the other, combined with the front and rear moldboards, the front and rear shares, the landside located at the inner side of the front moldboard and share, and the share of the rear plowbeing laterally extended and connected to said landside, subroo stantially as specified. v
3. The herein described plow, consisting of the standards 5, combined with the front and rear moldboards secured to the standards, the
front and rear shares below the moldboards, In testimony that I claim the foregoing as the landside at one side of the front mo1dlny'own I have hereto affi-xed my'signature in board and share and connected to the adthe presence of two witnesses.
vanced portion of the rear share, said rear AMBROSE F. JACKSON. 5 share being curved from the point of con- Witnesses:
nection back to its landside, substantially as F. M. JORDAN,
specified. M. MAXWELL.
