PLOW.
No. 568,426. l Paten-ted Sept. A29', 1896.
UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE JACOB BUOKEY, OF HANOVER, PENNSYLVANIA.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 568,426, dated September 29, 1896.
Application led January 14,1896. Serial N- 575i430. (No model.)
the flat face bs of the standard,under its shoul- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE J AcoB BUCKEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at I-Ianover, in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The objects of my invention are to provide a plow of great strength, having a point of wrought metal extending from in front of the plowshare to and beyond the rear end of the landside and secured directly to the standard;
, second, to provide a plowshare formed to rest in part upon said point to brace it, and having the rear portion of its upwardly-extended cutting edge angularly recessed to straddle the front of the standard and protect it against wear and also protect the front edge of the landside third, to provide the landside of the standard with a rearwardly-extended heel to have the middle portion of the point properly secured to said standard. I attain these objects by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a plow constructed in accordance with my invention, said view being taken from the moldboard side with the moldboard removed but its position shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the plow, taken from the landside,with the plow beam and handles removed. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the plow-standard, taken from the landside. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the wing-cutter or plowshare,
taken from the landside.
In said drawings, A represents the beam, having its rear end connected with one of the handles E; B, the standard, having the upper portion hollow and its top b provided with a perforation to receive a bolt b2, by which it is secured to the beam. To one side of the standard is secured the moldboard O by means of bolts c. One side of the standard is provided with a horizontal overhanging shoulder b3, against which the upper edge of the moldboard C and the upper edge of the wing-cutter or share G abut to relieve the fasteningbolts of pressure. The opposite or land side of the standard is also provided with an overhanging shoulder b4 for the upper edge of the landside D to abut against and thereby relieve the fastening-bolt d of the landside of pressure.
The inner side of the landside rests against der b4, and its bottom rests upon the point H of the plow. The lower edge of the iiat face b5 projects laterally over the sole b of the standard to form an abutment to rest upon the top edge of the point I-I. Saidpoint consists of a rectangular bar of wrought iron or steel having upon its top a shoulder h, that abuts against the lower portion g of the front edge of the share G. From said shoulder h the bar H has its top edge beveled to a point that is preferably slightly bent downward to facilitate its engagement with the ground in the bottom of the furrow. The rear end of the bar H is of such length that it extends beyond the rear end of the landside D, and also slightly beyond its outerface, to protect said landside against wear. The point II is secured to the side of the sole of the standard by means of two or three bolts h2, the sole b being rearwardly extended to form a heel 117, projecting a certain length in the rear of the body of the standard. The share G has an upwardly-extended stem G2, of considerable length,the front of which constitutes a curved but acute edge, and in the rear of said edge is a shoulder g2, that straddles the front edge of the' standard and protects its front and sides, and also the front edge of the landside, against wear.
Having now fully described my invention, I claim- 1. In combination with the moldboard of a plow, the standard B having on one side a shoulder b3 resting upon the edge of the moldboard and upon the upper edge of the stem of the plowshare, and a plowshare having in the rear of its acute edge a shoulder g2 straddling the front of the standard substantially as described.
2. In combination with a plowstandard having a lateral shoulder b4, the landside D under said shoulder, the point H extended rearwardly of said landside and beyond its outer side, and a plowshare having a stem G2 extended above the landside, and having a shoulder g rest-ing upon the pointH substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE JACOB BUCKEY.
